I used to have a really flat tummy, but since Olivia's birth my stomach muscles bulge out ( I still look 5 months pregnant when I relaxe them!). I do have some tummy fat to lose but wondering if the muscles will go back to where they were?? Should I be worried or am I just impatient, Olivia is only 2 mon. old

i feel your pain.. i was the same way.. it helps alot that i'm breastfeeding, but i havent done much otherwise.. (guess i was just 'dreaming' it would be enough to breastfeed) ;)
basically the best thing to do is some aerobics along with weights.. walking will also help (so i've been told.. i just need motivation now) good luck!

UHG! I've never had the flattest stomach, but now it's driving me nuts specially since I have a buddy wanting me to model for him >< I also have some really bad stretch marks. Same buddy as before was talkin to his mom and she suggested Cocoa butter and vitamin E (mixxed together, either the dry pills crushed and mixed or the oil mixed) and I am goin to try that and see if it helps. I have no clue what I"m gunna do about my stomach tho...

even though i feel like i've lost a lot of weight and i feel pretty good about the way i look it's frustrating that I still cant fit into my old jeans. I'm almost tempted to buy new ones that'll fit and make me look great in my new body...but I've lost more weight and figure it won't be too long until they fit again.

Definitely need to work out; it isn't going to go back to how it was with time. It's not only losing the tummy fat but building the muscles also. I waited a while before working out...two months after delivery I wasn't working out yet because I didnt feel fully healed. I would walk though. About a month ago (3 months after delivery) I started doing the bicycle at the gym for 20 minutes, and afterwards to ab work out 3 reps of 15 backward crunches, and 2 other things i dont know the names of...I've been doing that about 3 times a week (i'm only at the gym for about 30 min while my husband watches our son)...and I try to go to the pool also, do about 4 laps and then do anything i can think up that would work out my tummy area. I only have about 10 more pounds to get back to my pre-pregancy weight. and even though i weight more than i did before i was pregnant my tummy is actually tighter now (i was pretty inactive other than walking). The whole thing is motivation really. I wouldn't go to the gym if my sister wasn't working out too.

You shouldnt be worried. Some people go RIGHT BACK to how they used to look, and some people take a long time. A friend of mine took over a year for all of her belly bulge to go back to normal. My son is 3 months old and my stomach is still not back to normal. I hate it, but I know it isnt permanent. I am planning on starting back on my workout routine (walking, a healthy diet and doing the FIRM fitness program.) Good luck!

I just noticed in the past couple of days that I had shrunk back to near pre-pregnancy weight. About 3 weeks ago I went to the gym and COULD NOT do a sit-up. I decided to keep trying and keep going to the gym. My daughter is 3 months, 1 week now.

I know what you mean my daughter is 12 weeks and i still have to wear an elastic tummy belt to put my muscles back into place. Im 2 sizes bigger than i was before the pregnancy and it sucks. I just remember that it takes time....but with some hard work it should return to normal. So don't get down about it, just stay positive in the fact that it will return to normal.

It may be too late to try this at this point but hey why not give it a go! The day after I had my son I took an ace bandage and wrapped up around my stomach tightly and did this for 4 days while the biggest amount of lochia was being expelled. After 4 days my stomach was almost right back to its pre-pregnancy shape and within a week i had my belly back! Also breastfeeding helped me lose a lot of the weight which was the majority in my belly. This practice of wrapping your belly is an old hispanic tradition and they sure knew what they were doing!

I think at 3 months you get really bothered with your body! I am so frustrated and unsatisfied with my body at the moment. With my first I did weight watches but he was nearly 1 by the time I got into it! But my stomach did go back to normal - my second I am even more less satisfied with my body. I am finding it hard to get into the eating right and exercising again! It's exhausting. It's all in the muscles though, exercise and eat right!

Don't be worried it will happen, you just have to work at it - my stretch marks and yucky stomach would be worth my baby though! if it never returned to normal it would be ok because I have my 2 boys!

I had my daughter almost 14 weeks ago. I gained around 50 pounds during the pregnancy and the first 35 pounds fell off with no effort the two weeks or so after her birth. Then i went to the gym and got 10 more off over a month or so. I am hovering about 5 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight. I have heard that with each pregnancy you keep 5 pounds. So, if i have three i can look forward to 15 pounds of fat that i can't get rid of. I hope that's not true. The worst though is the texture of the skin. It feels really gross because of the little silver stretch marks i got. I'm so hoping that'll go away.

Hey, you could have a split rectosheath, with the abdominal muscles you are talking about. If you do, you need to see a physiotherapist & they will give you a stretchy band to wear to help the muscles come back together. Otherwise it does take longer to heal.

I can just about squeeze into my pre-baby clothes but still have that little bit left to go. I am planning on going to post-pregnancy yoga when the new classes start after Christmas, apparently it is great fun as you use your baby in the exercises and it is something you can do at home too.

I lost all of my pregnancy weight but I still have a lil flab when I sit down that drives me nuts! I had really good stomach muscles before I was pregnant. I am going to the gym every day and mainly doing cardio untill I have more energy. I figure though your pregnant for 9 months and that whole time your body is changing so it'll take 9 months for your body to get back to normal. Good luck!

I totally am there...cannot find the time or energy to workout. I really want to drop some weight but I have not ever been on a diet before. It is hard after not really having to watch what you eat while you are pregnant.

Sorry to hear that every1 is having a hard time losing their baby weight. I thank god that i got back down to my pre-pregnancy size only after a couple months after having each baby. I have 3 girls and my youngest one just turned 3 months yesterday. I thought for sure that it was going to be tougher to loose the weight this time round since it was my third child, but i was surprised that i lost the weight just as fast. I really think that breastfeeding has a lot to do with loosing the weight so fast. For the first six weeks i pumped every 2 hours for 10 minutes each, except when i was sleeping. Now i pump every 4 hours during the day. I produce way too much milk that our freezer is full of breast milk and now i'm just throwing it away cause the baby only eats about 3 oz. at each feeding. So if you breastfeed maybe try pumping more often even if the baby doesn't eat it, and just make sure you are eating healthy. Even if you don't do any kind of exercise i think you should be able to loose weight with just breast feeding and eating good, since breast feeding burns a lot of calories! GOOD LUCK LADIES!

And I live in the desert and now its too hot to be walking!

Yeah, the stretch marks suck too! I figure I'm stuck with those though. I use something called Bio Oil and used it all through my pregnancy and still got stretch marks. It's supposed to help reduce their apperance though. Finding time to work out is hard too, I haven't done much beside walking and now that the weather is getting crappy, I'm not sure what I'll do!

I might not mind the bulge if I didn't have such terrible stretch marks. The combination of the two makes it waaay worse. I've done some pilates which made my tummy really sore, and I heard that stretching your stomach after crunches can help. I haven't figured out when to find time to work out on a regular basis though.
