When do I start letting my 1 year old daughter start using a blanket and pillow?? I don't think it even matters cuz she is all over her bed anyway, but I still don't know when we should start to put them in her crib. thanks

I have always had bumper pads in my daughters crib. She has had a blanket in here crib since she was moved into it at 2 months old. Blankets have never been a problem. We just introduced a pillow recently because she has been sick and the elevation helped with her congestion. I tried to take it out last night and she threw a fit, so I gues the pillow is in there for good now. But like others she is all around her bed through the night anyway.

Our daughter has one because the pediatrician told us it helps with drainage, about 2 weeks ago. She's had 4 ear infections (currently getting over a double). She doesn't really use it much but it does help her to not cough (allergies). We'll see if it keeps the ear infections away.

She doesn`t really need a pillow until she moves into a bed, as for the blankets, if she movews all over I wouldn`t bother because she will just get tangled up in it. Just dress her warm at night

my son has had a fleece blanket since the day he was born, and he absolutly loves it! even when he was a newborn he would not sleep unless he was covered with his blanky and it was touching his face:)

my sons always had blankets and he has had a quilt and pillow since 10 months. he was getting really unsettled 4 a while n we had him in our bed one night, still restless so put a pillow under his head and he stopped fussing so i put one in his cot under his sheet and hes been sleeping better ever since. he just wanted one i guess he was ready. i was a little worried at first with the pillow but my niece had one about the same time n she also had blankets from birth.

Our son still uses a sleepsack if it's cold. We haven't given him a pillow, but when he is in our bed, he loves to crawl on top of the pillows and roll around. When he's in our bed, I cover him with my comforter and if it gets near his face at all, he pulls it down. He could probably be fine with one, but with the way he moves around in his sleep, I figure it wouldn't be that helpful.

I'm not sure what the professionals say, but I started giving my son a small receiving blanket in bed with him when he was about 6 months old. Later when he was mobile and very strong, we gave him a slightly heavier fleece-like blankie to sleep with. Now at 13 months, he sleeps with his blankie and a slightly heavier blanket as well. I think once the baby can lift his head and has complete muscle control of his neck and arms, then it is safe. You can start with the crocheted or afghan-type blankets with holes for a more "breathable" blanket.

My son is all over the crib, too, and most of the time his blankets are on the other end away from him. I'm not sure about a pillow, though. I don't think my son has much use for one yet since he is such a spastic sleeper. Once he calms down and starts sleeping in the same position, then I might give him one.

I think it depends on the child.....mine has always been aware enough of her blankie so I have given it to her since she was about 3 months old. She has one of those small/squishy pillows in her crib from Brookstone and she has never had a problem with it. She is 13 months now and sleeps just fine with or without a pillow...but MUST have her blanky. If you think your child is alert enough to know to pick up her head or move her blanket from her face then I think you will be ok. Some babies aren't....and don't take this the wrong way....smart enough to be in a crib with these objects just yet. I lucked out :)

I was nervous about a blanket, so I started Nap time and the one day watched too see what happens when my son moves all over the place. I started to give him a blanket at about 9 months, I also felt I HAD to put bumper pads in at around 8 months becuz he moved sooo much, he would end up hurting himself and waking up. I didn't have them in before that. I think I can say I'm a nervous mom and was always soo worried about SIDS, but I also feel as mom's we just know what will work and what doesn't. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I love the idea of a crochet blanket! She got a ton at my baby shower, I guess I forgot about them. I think i'll put one in her crib and give it a try. thanks all!! ♥

My son has always used light blankets, he just recently upgraded to the blanket that came with the crib set. I don't think I will give him a pillow until he is about two..when he is in our bed though, he always crawls and lays his head on a pillow, it's so cute..he likes to lay on soft stuff. He also is all over his crib so even when i cover him, they are off within a short amount of time. I usually check on him at least twice before i go to bed just to make sure it's not over his face. He likes to rub the blanket in between his index and thumb..He has always done that.

when my daughter is sick we give her a pillow, because she lays across it kinda elevated that way. as for a blanket, i crochet them so she has had one since the day she was born, they have holes in them, completely breathable, and the only reason i gave them to her was because she rubbed them on her face. it soothed her i guess :)

my daughter has had a light blanket in her crib since she was 8 months old... but as for a pillow I dont think we will give our daughter one until she starts to realize we have one and asks for it... my daughter also flips all over her bed so I dont think a pillow would make a difference to her
