Crib to toddler bed?

I let my son sleep in my bed until he was about 15 or 16 months because he never seemed to like the crib, even as a baby we'd lay him down and he would wake up. I converted the crib into the toddler bed and we would lay him down there. He gets up sometimes but not a lot and he is so independent anyway that he like climbing into bed and getting up on his own. If your child seems ready to crawl out of the crib then it is safer to take them out.

i put my son into his toddler bed at 17 months. we strated talking to him about his big boy bed and that he wasnt a baby anymore. got him excited about the new bed. for the first week we had both the crib and the bed in his room and let him get used to the feel of the bed. then one day it was time for nap and he got into the bed without being asked so when he got up i took the crib out!!! and we having looked back since. now he is 22 months and i will find him under the door or under the bed sometimes but the dr. said that was totally normal and it will pass. Next step potty training!!!

My son was 13 months and we put him in a queen sized bed that was on the floor so it was close to the ground. We didn't have any issues with this. I liked doing it early because you can still close the door before they learn to open it, to help keep them in bed at bedtime, the same way you would use the crib. However I havent had a lot of trouble with bedtime with my son and so keeping him in bed wasnt an issue for me. The only reason we skipped the toddler bed was because we got the queen size bed for free from a relative passing.

Well it depends on how you feel. I put my son in his toddler bed when he was 14 mths. He took right to it. He actually crawled in it on his own and went to sleep without me telling him to. So it depends on whether or not you feel she's ready.

My sone was in a toddler bed at 18 months or so because he flipped himself out of his crib and scared me. My daughter on the other hand is 21 months old and still in her crib. she is a good sleeper but is like a gymnist in her sleep. I find her is the weirdest positions when I check on her before I go to bed. At this point it is safer for her to stay in her crib. A week from now it might be a different story.

I think the best time is when they are 2 to 2.5 yrs old.

With the big move, I weould try and keep as much the same for her as I could. At least until things settle down a bit. My 20 month old is still in a crib though, and I plan to keep her in it as long as possible. She shares a room with her siblings, and I can totally see her wanding around poking them in the night or something, lol.

I have 4 children and i put all 4 of them into the toddler bed between 15-17 months. Of course they were being potty trained so I felt that they would need to get out if they needed. They all adjusted just fine. We need to give our kids a little more credit than we think. they are smart and can usually adjust faster than we can.

Our kids were in toddler beds at 18 months. We had to keep putting them into bed often. We finally bought them a glow-in -the dark drawing board. They play with it for
a little while and then they go to sleep.

my daughter slept in those 3-1 playpen up until she was 18 mo's,i was going to get her a crib but decided to try a toddler bed that we already had..the first night in it she had noo problem what so ever. the second night she fussed a little bit.but i also put her in there while she was awake but really tired.so she knew that i was putting her in there and not wake up in a place she didn't know...i hope you get as lucky as i did.i was soo surprised!! good luck!!

My daughter is almost 2 (Aug) and she is still in her crib and we have decided that when she starts climbing out of it is when we will change it or when she turns 3 years old.

We transitioned from crib to bed at 17 months and we had no problems at all. The bed is low, so he can climb in and out no problem on his own and we also put up a bed rail so he doesn't fall out while sleeping. We put a baby gate in his doorway at night time. That way we can leave his door open and still hear him, but we're not worried about him walking around the house and getting into anything.

I would wait until you are moved and all settled in so She can get used to the transition :). My son is 20 months and still sleeps in a crib, but he's always done great in it. I not considering getting a toddler bed for him until he starts climbing out of his crib or we have another baby, which will probably be a year from now (hopefully). But everyone is different.. :)

We decided to take the crib down instead of converting it and got him a toddler bed. We put him in one at 18 months and was afraid itw as too early but ater a few days of explaining that it was bedtime, he sleeps much better. Now when he is ready for a nap he just climbs into bed! My son never slept well as a baby but he sleeps great in his big boy bed!! Good luck.

Yes, I would wait. That is a lot of change for a little one. Wait until she adjusts to the new place, etc. then you can move her.

My son was 3 when I moved him...and it was his choice. He never climbed out, and wasn't ready to be overnight potty-trained, so it wasn't an issue. When he decided he was ready, that was it. He slept the first night in the t-bed like a champ!

i had to do the toddler bed when my daughter was 17 months since my 20 month old now weighs 31 pounds and I am pregnant and my doc said not to lift her at ALL. she's done pretty well with it overall. we even went to hawaii for a week where she was in a crib and she actually did better when we got back. i'd suggest getting a toddler rail though since our daughter kept falling out the first week. she was getting out of bed a lot and turning on the light for a few weeks, but that's stopped. it helps for her to be more tired. she still takes naps too though! good luck!

our toddler went into his toddler bed just before he turned 18 months old...we waited till his baby brother was ready for the crib before doing anything so he didn't feel like he wasn't the baby anymore

we moved our daughter at 14 months to a toddler bed. at that time she still cried in the crib, and naps were hard as well. she did amazing! it was much easier than i even imagined. and now she goes down with no problem. she fell out of bed a few times but nothing serious! good luck :)

My fear is its going to be too much change at this point with the move and all. We are moving from Wyoming to MO here in 3 weeks. My question is more should I just try it or should we wight a month till she gets adjusted to her new place.

i moved my son from crib to toddler bed 2 months ago... he was 18 months... he adjusted just fine... sometimes i find him sleeping on the floor in his room... but other than that he did just great!!

My son has a crib with a door on the side and he can climb out and in his bed. And we had to finally open it bc he was climbing out of his crib. Before we decided to do that we would lay him in his bed and read him a story and he would play and than go to sleep sometimes he would cry or fuss. But now he can get out when he wants to. the first week was the hardest we just kept to the routine he was used to lay him down and read a story and kisses and than walk out. But he would than climb out and go to his door and cry. Whenever he did that I would go back in and lay him down and say "night night love you" and walk back out. The first week was the hardest and it took probably 30 minutes for him to finally just go to bed. But we stuck with that and now I can lay him down read a story tell him night and walk out. And he will maybe play or whatever but he doesnt get out of bed anymore unless it is morning. Now naptime he usually falls asleep playing and I pick him up and lay him down. It really isnt that bad you just have to stick with what she is used to.
