are your babies drinking whole milk yet? If so, when did they start? If not, when do you plan on starting?

My son turned one on August 11th and his doctor said we could switch to 2% milk. I asked if he needed whole and he said no, 2% was good but nothing under that (like 1% or skim). I switched my son two days after his birthday and he has done fine with it. As far as only needing 16oz...that's what I've heard and read as well. I've used it as an opportunity to switch from bottle to sippy cup. I give my son 3 bottles in a day (first thing in the morning, one before his afternoon nap and at bedtime) and offer him a sippy cup the rest of the day (with meals, etc.) with either milk, diluted apple or white grape juice or water. It seems to help him transition to a cup and also not miss those couple extra bottles he used to get.

My dr told me to do it to where you are mixing the milk and formula until theyre one and then just milk after one but you can also do water and watered down juices to supplement the extra that she usually has

I am still trying to prepare for the whole milk switch... I was all set to do it and then we had our 12mo. checkup. The doctor told me that we are only supposed to give a total of 16oz. of whole milk per day! That is like just over 2 (6-8oz) bottles for my daughter... who usually drinks 20-26oz in a given day. Not sure how to smoothly transition this, so I have been putting it off.

Anyone else have the same issue, or suggestions???

We did whole milk for two weeks after my DDs birthday and she became extremely constipated. So we went back on the formula for now--which she takes well and we might just do the 2nd stage formula for a bit. It was horrible watching her try to poop so painfully. We have an appointment to discuss this with the doc.

We started giving my son whole milk at the age of 8 months.. I've give him mostly formula and 1/4 milk. Then by the age of 10 months, he was mostly on whole milk. by 11 months he was getting nothing by whole milk.

He's been fine. There have been no digestive problems, no spit-up, well no more than normal.

my daughter just turned a year old on Aug 4th. her doctor recommended her to be fully on whole milk by a year old... so around 11 mnths i started to introduce it and now she doesnt get formula at all but im thinking about the toddler formula thats flavored like vanilla and strawberry b.c i didnt get to bbreastfeed my daughter very long and i think the toddler formula would be a boost of immunities and sources of vitamins. idk though im thinking about it. Hope i could help.

Seriously EVERY doc has a different opinion on this. My oldest is 8 and we started missing breast milk and whole milk around 11.5 mo and had no probs. And my youngest will be 1 on 8/24 and the peds office insists on waiting until 1. Now I cheated a bit when I was pumping and my supply got low about 2 weeks ago and just added 1-2 oz to a few of her bottles. We tried mixing it with a few ounces of formula and the sitter said she threw the bottle across the room...LOL So we go for her check up next week and I'm so ready to be done pumping at work that I'm hoping we can start switching.

My son will be 1 in 2 weeks, and we just started mixing whole milk with is formula. Today I mixed 6 ounces of formula with 2 ounces of whole milk, by the middle of the week it will be 5 ounces formula/3 ounces whole milk, and so on. By 12 months it will be all whole milk.

When started mixing whole milk with our daughter's formula after her 1year check-up. We've been doing this for about a week and are almost using just the milk and no formula. I've been advised by many moms I know that it's a good idea to mix so the baby gets used to the taste.

My son turned 1 today (!!) and I started him on whole milk two weeks ago. When we have his 12 month appointment I'll make sure the doctor wants him on whole instead of 2% (he's pretty skinny so I think whole is fine).

Twelve months is the recommended time to change to cow's milk from formula or exclusive breast milk to drink, but I started early because I was anxious to stop pumping at work. He did just fine and doesn't seem to have a preference. He still nurses when he's with me but he'll drink out of a sippy cup or normal cup at meals.

The Dr. recommended 2% for my daughter who is turning one on August 18. She has been drinking it since weaning off the breast at 10 months old.
