Eight Week Old -- Daytime Naps

Hello Everyone

I have an 8week old little boy (who's a little darling)

He only naps if I'm in the car or going for a walk or in the swing.

Whenever I try to put him for a nap in his crib, he just refuses, then becomes overtired & cranky & nursing wont help either.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how they may get their infant to sleep in the crib

He does well with going to bed at night and is more cooperative, but daytime, not so much & then he just gets irritable due to being overtired!

thank you for all your posts!

i've decided to just let him sleep in the crib or car seat or the sling.. anything.. because if he doesnt get his sleep, he is just overtired & then not as happy as he should be

besides.. i decided he's still too young for a sleep routine & i will start in a couple more months.

at least i'm lucky & he goes in his crib at night without too much fussing, and yes, my husband (who is in charge of night sleep) does put him down drowsy but awake..

my son is also 8 weeks and I was too having trouble getting him to take his naps. I'd always use the vibrate on his bassinet to put him to sleep but he'd always wake back up when it shut off...plus he doesn't seem to like to swing. Then I read this article that talked about laying your baby down awake or slightly awake when it reaches nap time and if they fuss let them fuss 3min.- go comfort them. Then if they fuss again wait 5 min before comforting then 10min. Usually at the end they calm themselves down and go to sleep but if not do another 10min. interval and then start back from the beginn. I started doing this with my son and I have to say (knock on wood) it has worked wonders. He has gotten very good at putting himself to sleep with minimal fussing and is even sleeping longer periods at night. Give it a try...I know different things work for different babies, whatever you do though get a routine- then the baby knows exactly what to expect and helps eliminate any anxiety. Good luck!

My daughter is 8 weeks too & she will only sleep during the daytime on someone's chest or on her tummy. I caved & let her sleep on her tummy in her crib during the day. She will actually go to sleep from awake, often with minimal fussing. I recommend this only if you are comfortable with the idea. My daughter has good head control/movement, there are no blankets or toys in the crib, and I have good air circulation plus frequent checks.

I also have an 8 week old who doesnt like sleeping in his crib during the day so i lay his push chair down flat so that he is lying down and i push him around for a bit until he nods of. It doesnt do him any harm and he is always in a better mood after hes slept
