Bethany has not tried to crawl. She hates being on her belly but will stick her butt up in the air and get her legs going. She does stand very well. She can stand by herself with some help balancing.

Just to respond to some posts...skipping crawling will not cause learning disabilities. Don't freak out if your baby is trying to walk before they are fully able to crawl. Some children crawl and very soon after are standing or even walking.

I agree.  Although it is important that we try to stop our kids walking before crawling, it isn't going to do any permanent damage and will not cause learning difficulties

My little man enjoys tummy time but now he's started to try and push himself around and is getting very frustrated. He's always loved tummy time and is very balanced in the prone position. I've told our health nurse I think he'll roll from back to tummy first because he's just so balanced the other way! Hope all you mums are enjoying your bubs. I am! xox

My 19 month old son is very bow legged, He began commando crawling at 5 months, pulling himself up on furniture at 8 months and walking at 10 months and i do believe this was because of this. But the problem is, when your little one want to "GOOOOOOOOO", how can you stop them??? Never once did we try to make him stand, he had a lot of tummy time though...loved it! It's just one of those things i guess. His legs are coming good now, the dr's don't believe they will stay bowed, but I will try to discourage our 5 month old daughter from the same exploits lol. problem is, she has started on the commando crawling trick!!!

ETA When i say bowed, i am talking John Wayne getting off a horse bowed!!

My son just turned 5 months and has not tried to crawl, but loves to stand and try to walk. Dr. said it was ok so I'm ok with it.

My little pumpkin loves to hold my fingers and stand up. However, she hasn't even fully rolled over yet or started crawling (she hates tummy time!).

My son loves to stand up while we are holding him. He will be 5 months tomorrow Jan. 5th. But he hasn't fully rolled over yet either...he tries and tries but he is not a fan of his belly. Everything we put him on his belly he will play for a few minutes then cry. But he loves to jump up and down while standing up with our help.

my little girl has been trying to stand for almost a month. she loves when you just hold her hands and she picks herself up.
she's also trying to crawl. shes got the inchworm thing going on though where when she's pushing with her legs her head pushes across the floor. i think it's because she likes being on her belly alot more than on her back

im sure sanding this early will lead to bad hips or bowed legs so i make sure my son cannot stand on flst feet. try not to rush them into walking. this is baby time and doesnt last long. they got many years ahead to walk and run.

Hi there! My August 21st baby crawls, stands, rolls back & forth... I have a July 2009 cousin who is not doing any of this!!! Just make sure your babies crawl BEFORE they walk... VERY IMPORTANT!!!

I actually would try to refrain from standing your baby. It is very important that babies not skip crawling as it strengthens the connection between the right and left hemisphere. There are many studies connecting skipping crawling to learning disabilities. When babies feet are against something it is a reflex to push against it. They cannot control it and don't do it by choice. Eventually they get used to it and then start to want it but it is not necessarily best for their physical development. Just FYI I am an early childhood educator as well as a mommy. Hope this helps. :)

My baby can't stand on his own but he definitely loves standing w/ assistance. Whenever I try letting go of his hands, he slowly tumbles over. He isn't a fan of his tummy. So much so that at about 6 weeks old, he rolled over onto his back. I still give him tummy time, of course, but I think he is going to be one to skip over crawling and just start walking or scooting on his butt. (BTW, my son is 5 months on Jan 8.)

My son just turned 4 months and he gets SO mad when he tries to crawl, he just goes in circles. He doesn't get off his belly so it's more of an Army crawl. He loves holding on to my fingers and standing, he'll stand by himself IF he thinks we're holding on to his waist.
