When my 4 month old was 3 months she went 4 days without pooping. Needless to say I got worried. So being a new mom I took her to the doctors. They told me that about this age is when their intestines start to mature. So she would have a day or two with out pooping. The doctor told me that if she goes 3 - 4 days with out pooping that I should give her a glycerine based suppository (not something I look forward to). She said you can find it over the counter at any pharmacy or I could try the vasaline if I dont want to go as far as stickng a suppository in her little bottom. Now she goes poop ever 2 - 3 days and I havent had to give it to her. Good luck with your little man. I dont know if I've helped but this is just what I have learned.

Breastfeeding babies normally poop after every feed .so that's normal unless the color of the poop changes.

My little girl has gone a week without pooping.. By about day 4 she seems like she is in a lot of pain.. I have tried boiled water and massages moving the legs.. At the moment the only thing that gets it moving is serpositries... I hate giving them to her but I hate it worse when she is in so much pain!!! I have spoken to my doctor and she told me to go to a chiropractor so they can teach me the correct way to massage her so hopefully that will get stuff moving... I am also thinking that after christmas I might start introducing some solids to her to see if that will get things moving a bit better!!! I might try the vasaline though!!!

My son is like yours only worse...he poops once every 7-15 days....yep, insane. He is also exclusively breastfed. When he does poop it's not hard so they don't consider him constipated but I know he's uncomfortable. I was given a prescription for sorbitol but that made him crampy and sad so I quit that. Another nurse recommended 1 tablespoon Karo syrup (in the cereal or baking isle in the grocery store) in 3 oz of water 1 time a day until they poop. I haven't tried it but Ive heard a lot of good results from other parents. Good luck...it's a bummer having a no pooping baby~~

My 4 month old poops every day. They say every baby is different though. Karo syrup mixed with your baby formula with help him poop! Doctor recommend it for little ones who are having trouble. I am not for sure how much you need to use but just ask your doc or look it up online! karo syrup is the best for babies this small!

sometimes my 4month old who is totally breastfed will only go every other day or even 2days and then othertimes he will go 3 times a day he always fills his nappy.

The formula that you are giving your baby could be making him/her constipated but i would go & speak to your health visitor or GP for information on what to do.

My baby poops once a day. The doc had advised us to give her 1 to 2 tbsp of 100% pure apple juice if she is constipated.

i had the same problem with my daughter she went from pooping 3-4 times a dat to not going for 5 days, so i called her doc and he told me its normal for breast fed babies to do that sometimes but if it continues just give her a 1/2 oz of baby prune juice mixed with a 1/2 oz of water. i did it, she protested, but i got her ot drink it and about an hr later she pooped and it was really thick and filled up wht whole pamper... i drink a 1/4 glass of prune juice every 2 days now so she can get it throuhg my milk

My baby wouldn't poop for about 4 days, he is otherwise healthy. My Dr. told me to first try taking his temperature rectally with vaseline to help stimulate his bowels. It worked for us, but it doesn't work immediately. I took his temp and then a few hours later he filled his diaper. My Dr. told me that if he went about 5-6 days or was uncomfortable before that then try half of a glycerine suppository. They sell them over the counter. Or you can try Karo in his bottle. I think only a teaspoon mixed in his normal amount of feeding, but I'm not positive on the amount of Karo. Good luck.

My son is exclusively breastfed and poops after all daytime naps, which is about every 2 hrs. approx. 6 times a day.( my daughter was the same way too) Watered down apple prune juice works great as does mixing 1 oz. breast milk with 1 oz. of prunes baby food!

My son poops every morning when he wakes or a little after he wakes, and it always fills the diaper. He at least has one more huge poop throughout the day, if not two!! I am 100% breast feeding. I don't know... but I would be concerned if your baby didn't poop every day!!

my son was born on 8-20....he usually goes once/twice a day, he is on enfamil gentlease and it works great. the first couple months i was breastfeeding only and he would go a few days without a BM and sometimes he would go 8 times a day...it just depended on the day. thankfully he has never had a problem :)

My son is 3 months and he poops once a day if lucky or every second da, he was straining there at one point so I tried Coloxyl which is over the counter of 2ml into his bottle, he is formula fed and on a easy digestive one too however this seems to not work, the drops sure got him going though. Doc says its all ok. Just like adults we are all different and some go alot and others not so much, as long as he is not in pain all OK.

like someone already said ... formula can constipate babies. talk to your doctor about it and they can recomend a different formula for them. i have some friends that would have the same problem and had to try a couple different formulas to find one that worked for their baby. so that might help too. my son poops like crazy and is on both formula and breastmilk as well. so it might just be the formula for you ...

My daughter is breast fed with one formula bottle a day to get her vitamin D. She has a cold and she normally only poops once a day. It's a doozy and comes in the morning. Anyway she didn't poop one whole day so I called the pediatrician and they told me to drink more water and that it's ok if she doesn't poop for 48 hours.

I do play with her, or as I call it dance with her, where I bend her legs and arms everyday while listening to a Baby Einstein CD. We do a bicycle movement and just bending her legs forward. Then I let her go wild. We do this I guess from 15-30 minutes. This works great at tiring her out.

I really tried to breastfeed my second, but my little preemie just wouldn't. He goes about every other day now. At first he was on parent's choice formula, and it was once a week. He always cried and strained... as soon as we switched formulas, big difference! (We switched to similac.) I've found that a warm bath helps him. Makes it easier for him to go. My first son was breastfed, and went every time he nursed!

juice is ok diluted with water, my son has the same problem. he is 3 months also , i did it with my oldest when he was a baby, he is two now. Do it about twice a day, or my pediatrician said you can mix a little oatmeal ceral for babies make sure its oatmeal and put a little gerber firstfoods applesauce in it only half the jar. or you can do prunes. My son now poops like 3 times a day. I like doing the foods better than laxatives or cuetips and vasolean. he'll pig the bottle down with one taste of that sweetness lol...

It's really inconsistent for my daughter. Some days she'll go as many as 5 times, and other days only once or not at all. She's gone as long as 3 days without a poop, and it didn't even seem to bother her. She is breastfed only.

My daughter is 3mon old and she poops atleast twice a day( she is breastfeed). But here lately she is going like 5 times a day. I don't know if its because I haven't felt good or what. But I have heard breastfeed babies can go up to a week not pooping.

Karo Syrup is over the counter... I have never heard of doing that though.
My daughter poops at least once a day, but sometimes up to 3 times a day.
I suppose it just depends on how much she has had to eat.
She is exclusively formula fed by the way.

my little one only has a bm 1 or 2 times a day in the beginning i had a lot of trouble getting her to use the restroom... here are a few ways i have tried...

- laying her on her belly
- gave her 2oz. of watered down apple prune juice
- gave her a little more baby water during the day to keep her hydrated you can get that at any grocery store
- bounced her on my knees
- and even gave her a enema once

after all of this i have learned that giving her a little more baby water has kept her regulated.... hope this helps you and good luck if u have anymore questions or if none of this helps i would go to the doctor....

formula will constipate them because of all the iron. but my daughter is on formula and her doc told me to put 1tbsp of dark karo syrub in every bottle. it helps her go about 2-3 times a day. it took a few days to start working. but it really does help!

You might need to stop one of the things your doing he might not be tolerating formula and breastfeeding. Some can't. Some have to wait until they are older to ad formula when breastfeeding. If you want to breastfeed i would stop formula feeding for a while.

My son poops ones a day, normally in the morning after his first wet diaper. But his dr. said it's ok if he poops once every few days. If he doesn't look in pain it's ok. I mean you'll know his belly will feel hard if he's constipated or not pooping right.
