how much cereal do u feed ur 5 month old?

My daughter is now 7months old, she started solids at 4months because she wasnt getting fulfilled by her bottle, she would always be wanting a bottle, so now she has 3 smalls meals a day, breakie cereal, fruits for lunch, and veggies and now pasta mixed into it for dinner. She has bottles in between, but she only snacks on them, she would never finish them, but she has started to finish them off now, so she must be wanting more. She lets me know when shes full, or if she wants more. We have worked our way up to different foods, but now i have to start looking into different breakfast because she is starting to turn away from it. My daughter loves her food, and our doctor says she is thriving.

My daughter, Shylin, eats 1-2 tablespoon of cereal mixed with enough formula so that it's not too runny or too thick. She washes it down with a couple ounces of formula for breakfast. She fine for a few hours, and then every 3-4 hours she drinks 5-6 oz of formula. Her last night feeding, I put a tablespoon of cereal in her bottle of 6oz. She does pretty well with this. But, it has not helped her sleep through the night yet.

i give my 5 month old about a 6oz bottle of formula and then she eats one jar of rice cereal mixed with applesauce after her bottle. i think every baby is different with how much they want to eat.

My son is 5 months and weighs more than 20 pounds. He's a big boy, but he's also starting to stand unsupported and is almost crawling. He's been on rice cereal since he was 3 months (doctor ok with this) and started him on veggies at 4.5 months. We give him a bottle in the early morning, cereal around 7/8am, another bottle later in the morning, squash at lunch, a bottle or two before supper, squash and cereal at supper, and another bottle before he goes to bed for the night. All of your posts have been very helpful to me!! After starting solids, he's dropped in the amount of formula he takes so I was a little concerned, but it sounds like he's getting enough to eat and is fine. Thanks everyone!!

My 5 month old (he'll be 6 months on the 2nd) gets 4 T of rice with an 8 oz bottle of formula 1 for nap and 1 before bed time. Sometimes 1 extra bottle. 2 usually, 3 sometimes. Bowl of oatmeal (3T with formula) for breakfast. I feed my son. He's been eating since he demanded food at 5 months. He's gone through everything, even strawberries. He eats table food now. I never fed him jar food, to easy to make the food.



He's doing just great. At night he also gets breastmilk. We are trying to wean him to formula. We are up there in age and want one more child.

My son eats 2 baby spoons of rice cereal mix with about 3/4 of an ounce of formula. Sometimes he finishes it and wants more, while other times he only eats half. It just depends. He usually drinks about 5-6 oz before his cereal

my son is now eating solids once or twice a day; rice cereal mixed with a different fruit or veggie every week so i can see if he has allergic reactions. he also has 5, 5oz bottles every day. this seems to be working for him :] thanks for all ur help mommy's, i truly appreciate it!

My daughter is 5 months old today , I started her on rice cereal somewhat after xmas, I started with a half tbs now im up to 2 tbs. Im giving it a few more days until I start her on her next cereal. I believe that you need to have them on all cereals before starting them on things like banana and apples..

Each baby IS different some can eat sooner then others. :) my daughter is a hefty 18 pounds and no baby can be over-fed. what is too much they spit up.

My doctor suggested at the age of 4-6 months to feed 1-2 tablespoons twice a day of rice ceral and dont start fruit and vegetables until 6 months.

This may sound bad but I don't keep track of what my son eats. I give him cereal in the morning with his formula, when he pouts or starts eating his hand means hes hungry I give him 6-8 ounces of formula first and if he's still hungry I fill him up with jar food. Sometimes half a jar sometimes a whole one.

can't forget our parents fed us this way, and those of are that are obese are due to medical reasons or their own choices.

Don't be afraid to feed them.

My daughter will be 5 months old on the 31st of this month. Three weeks ago I started her on rice cereal per doctors orders. I was going to wait until she was 6 months old but my doctor said that it would be ok to start now. For the first two weeks she got 2 servings of cereal a day. Each serving was 1 tbs with 1 oz of milk. She would get one bowl of cereal before her second bottle of the day and her second bowl of cereal with her 4th bottle of the day (she gets 5 bottles a day). After two weeks we started her on half a jar of step-2 baby food. My doctor said to start with the orange vegges first, then got to the green veggies, and finally fruit. She gets the jar food right before her 3rd bottle of the day. I always wait 30 minutes after she eats before I give her the bottle because she had a problem with over eating and throwing up her bottle after she finished it. She is doing great with this.

I feed my son a half a bowl of baby cereal. I would seperate the two as far as giving him milk and ceral and space them apart.

I started my 5 month old girl on rice cereal a few weeks ago. I feed her Apple and Rice 3 times a day. Only about a fourth of a cup at a time. You should try once in the morning and if he's hungry at night feed him again. The amount you feed your baby depends on how hungry they are.. He'll let you know.

My son is 5 1/2 months..I started him on the rice cereal when he was 4 months with spoon and he loved it. Doctors usually recommend twice a day..so i feed him rice cereal in the morning when he gets up around 7..and at night around 5 or 6...

Id make him 8 oz bottle and use about 4 oz for his cereal..and he'll drink the rest after..or sometimes i'd mixed it with his formula.

I started feeding my daughter rice cereal at my doctor's recommendation at 4 months. Ever since then she's been unable to sleep through the night! It was way too early to start her and her digestive system was to immature so she was probably in pain. I stopped feeding her rice cereal right away and asked a lactation consultant what I should do and she said not to feed her anything but breast milk or formula for the first 6 months. Now she's starting to sleep better and she's completely satisfied with just breast milk.

Every night I feed my baby about 1/4 cup baby cereal and then I nurse him to sleep. If you do the cereal first they eat more and will sleep longer.

I have a wonderful pediatrician he doesn't believe in antibiotics just if it's necessary, so when he tells me my baby is hungry, I give my baby food. It's no use sitting with a baby that is unhappy and hungry who is crying all the time when you can have a happy baby. But that's why I say believe in yourself if you feel your baby is ready for food give her food. Doctor's isn't always right

Hi you don't have to worry too much, my baby was 4 weeks old when he didn't get enough out of his milk so the peditrican said we must start giving him cereal. He is now eating cereal in die morning, fruit purity in the afternoon and veggies at night and 4-5 bottles of formula and he is fine, not overweight or anything. He will show you when he has had enough my baby start spitting out the food then I know he is full. Somebody once told me just listen to your mother instincts and everything will be fine, it's so true!

Joanna, the collective train of thought on the introduction of solids to babies has recently been changed. It was six months but now we are generally being advised to start at 5 months with some exceptions at 4 months. Any data collected relating obesity to the introduction of solids is 'loose' at best.

My 5 month old is fully breastfed, eats 3 small meals of solids a day (a mixture of apple, banana, sweet potato and occasionally rice cereal so far.) He has about 100ml's of formula before bed too, aswell as breastfed at this time. He has also just started taking very small amounts of water throughout the day. (It's summer here and REALLY HOT 32 degrees celcius+ everyday and most nights!!)

Alex is 5.5 months old and is probably around 16 lbs, He's nursing 6 times a day (I don't think he gets much per feeding in the evenings). He also has 2-2/3 tbsp. of cereal mixed with 1 oz. of breast milk once a day. I've given him cereal twice a day on occasion, but then only 2 tbsp. of cereal with .75 oz. of breast milk. He also has a sippy cup of water with just an oz. or so of prune juice in it that I offer him throughout the day--the prune juice became necesssary after we introduced cereal....

My daughter gets about 2.5 tabelspoons of ceral at about 8a.m. followed by about a 5 ounce bottle, one ounce of which is in her cereal. At around 11 she get a 6 ounce bottle. Then at 12 she gets a jar of baby food. Two bottles, then at 6 she gets more cereal, and around 8 she get her last 6 ounce bottle for the night. Hope this helps.

according to health visitors and health experts you shouldnt be feeding your baby anything until they are 6 moths old. there digestive system is not ready to take solid food and it has now been linked to obesity. they suggest that every child is fully milk fed until they are six months.

My son will be 5 months here on the 28th, and i make an 8 ouce bottle oh his formula and mix some of it in with his 5 tbs of rice ceral and he eats that around 8:30-9pm then he would take abreak maybe 15 mins and will finsih his bottle and go to bed

my daughter is breastfed and i feed her about 5 times a day and once a day she eats rice cereral mixed with 1 1/2 jars baby fruits and vegies mixed. i never really measure exactly how much cereal i mix. she seems happy with the amount but i hope im not over feeding her either. As long as they're growing and healthy, and not seeming hungry or yacking up from too much then its about the right amount i guess. :)
