how much should he eat?

I did forget to say that once babies start eating food on a pretty regular basis typical formula or breast milk intake varies 16- 24 oz per day, that's typical, but each baby is different so some will be at 16 and others will be 30+. The big test is what does his growth chart look like? is he gaining weight each time you go in

i think it would depend on how often you are BF him. My son is 8 1/2 months and he has a bottle every 4 hours from 7am and an hour after his bottle ill offer him his breakfast and lunch. but at dinner time he has food first and then bottle an hour after then bed.

I still worry abotu how much my son eats, some days he wont have anything, other days he surprises me and had 3 courses! if your a little worried about his intake see if he will have a little mashed up banana at lunch time, if he takes it then he's hungry if not just offer him a baby biscuit as a snack.

My son was eating breakfast lunch and dinner by 7 months only small amounts and even if he didnt fuss as if he was hungry i would still always offer it to him.

My son will be 8 months on the 12th and he's been eating a whole jar of baby food 3 times a day for about 3 weeks. He would probably eat 1 1/2 jars, but I know he needs his formula, so I give him only 1 jar and a 6 oz bottle. That pretty much fills him up. He tends to get fussy around 2 hours after eating lunch (around his nap time) so I give him a 4-6 oz bottle. I think he eats a LOT for his age, but I agree with Tracy and he would stop if he were full. If you think that he gets fussy around lunch time then I would give him some food then. If you give him a jar and that's not enough, the stage 3 jars are 6 oz and they work great. I would just ask you pedi. if giving your baby stage 3 would be okay! Oh and I don't know if other people do this, but I buy whole wheat or mixed grain cereal and put some in ALL of his baby food. He won't eat the food because it's not thick enough. Also if you don't wanna do food, then buy little snacks. The gerber graduates snacks for sitters and crawlers melt fast, so they won't choke, and my baby loves them! I hope this helps!

I've been asking myself the same question! My son will be 8 mo on the 27th and he eats cereal and a jar (or 2) of baby food 3 times a day. I still nurse him as well and I'm starting to wonder if he's eating more solids than he needs and nursing less? When I do occasionally pump and give him a bottle he seems to be satisfied with less milk than I would think (typically 3 or 4 oz as opposed to 5 or 6). I know it is natural for him to want less milk after solids but what is the right balance???

babies are smarter than adults they stop eating when they are full and only eat when they are hungry, so you really can't over feed a baby. If after the 2 jars at supper he's turning his head away from the spoon or putting his hand up, he's full on the other hand he is still opening his mouth, he's still hungry. My son will usually eat 2 jars for dinner and maybe a little of his bottle, but he's always been a big eater, prior to starting baby food he was talking up to 50 ounces of formula per day.
