My 2 yr old little boy either runs away and hides or cries and dances about when he's going for a poo. I have been trying to potty train him for about a month now, but he wont let me near him when he's filling his nappy and seems to get upset. Its like he thinks he's going to get told off, or maybe its hurting him...

My 2 yr old girl sometimes wants to use the potty, sometimes doesn't. If she's around other children who are potty trained, she wants to use the potty more than if the other kids are not potty trained. Just this afternoon after lunch she told me she had to use it, she peed in it then said she had to poop. She tried to go, but ended up pooping in her pants. She's kind of fair-weathered about it, but that's also her personality. She tends to decide one thing one minute and the complete opposite the next. If I try to force anything - even what she'd previously decided she wants - she throws a fit. So I have to let her learn on her own time with as much encouragement as I can give her. Her 2 year checkup is next week. I'm planning to ask the doc for pointers on ways to encourage her.

My son will only pee in the potty but he won't tell me when he has to go, he just looks down at his penis, and then once I get him on the potty he only pees halfway and then he will getup and pee the rest in the tub or on the floor.

Just recently, 3 of my friends children have been potty trained. All 3 of them told me that one day they just decided they wanted to use the potty. Since then I have backed off. I don't want my son to be scared of it. He throws a fit every time I would try to put him on it and acted like he was terrified of it. He knows what it is and he knows what it's for. He will decide when he is ready. I have also heard it is harder to potty train boys. I know how much we want them to be out of diapers, but I am just waiting for him to give me the sign.
