My 2 1/2 month old has been smiling (socially) for nearly a month now. Don't mean to scare you, but you may want to check with your pediatrician on it, because i have read a few things on autism, and not smiling socially is one of the red flags.....I hope all goes well, and I'm sure all is fine.

My son is 2months and 2 weeks old. He started smiling at 1 week. He smiled in his sleep alot at first but at around 3 weeks he started smiling and laughing if I talk to him or make funny faces!

My son started off the exact same way. He was down right laughing in his sleep but not even smiling when he was awake. Don't worry, I was upset too like perhaps I couldn't make him happy. He's just about 12 weeks now and smiling like crazy!!! He started cooing and laughing out loud too. All kids are different. He'll be smiling at you in no time!

My son is 10weeks and he now smiles regularly. He loves when we talk to him and he also tends to smile at nothing. it varies but it should start soon. Try talking to him or her.

Quoting Erin:

Don't worry, he'll be smiling before you know it! My 11 week old son has been smiling with his whole face for a few weeks now. My friend's baby, 10 weeks old, on the other hand, barely registers a "smirk". So, just like everything else, babies develop at different rates, so don't worry! It will be worth the wait!!

I totally agree with Erin. Yes, don´t worry. My daughter just really started smiling a few days ago, and she was 4 weeks early. (born on 28th) You´ll get plenty of smiles soon!

My daughter smiles all the time but she was smiling with in the first week of her being born. She was in the hospital for 10 days and even the nurses said that she was really smiling and it wasn't gas. As far as being five weeks early, I was taught that they will develope at the rate they should from when they would be term. Ok, so that came out weird. Basically your son may very well be "five weeks" behind developmentally because he had to use those five weeks to get his way up to where most babies are born. Two months from when he would have been considered a term baby (about his due date give or take a week or two) is when he should start to do what most two month old babies do. But you have to remember that he will develop in his own time. My daughter has been ahead for pretty much everything but she giggled a little later (or maybe just on time) then development says she should have. Every baby is different. Just remember that. :D

yeah we do tell him hes so handsome all the time and we laugh and play! he does grab for things and bat at his activity gym. im home with him all day and i talk to him all the time and sing...he does have colic so hes a bit of a fussy baby and he was 5 weeks early...i dont know if that affects his development at all but i cant wait for him to respond to me! lol

my daughter smiles ALL THE TIME. it's so cute..it breaks your heart when she does. she's been smiling since she was four weeks old. he should be old enough to try to reach for things. try giving him a rattle. lacey loves her pink teddy bear. as long as you interact with him and smile at him and make funny noises and mimmic his coos then he should start smiling responsively soon. i talk to my daughter and tell her she's a pretty baby..she seems to like that. maybe your little dude might need some compliments
