I'm worried about my son who's 5 an a half months old. he wants to sleep all the time! he goes to bed at 8.30pm, wakes about 2.30am and then again at 7. he usually stays awake for an hour and then goes back to sleep until 10.30-11am. He will wake up for about 90 minutes and then want to sleep again! If he only gets 30 mins he will scream for 2 hours until he goes back to sleep. He is only happy if he gets 3-4 hour naps in the afternoon. Then in the evening he will be awake for 2 hours and then back to sleep again. He struggles to stay awake for longer than an hour and when he is awake (even after a long nap) he is very very grumpy! I know they still need a lot of sleep but he hates being awake at the moment and this has been going on for at least 4 weeks now. Has anybody got any ideas or gone through this themselves???

HI Jenny- My daughter is the same way. Don't worry nothing is wrong as long as he is awake enough to eat and keep gaining weight it's fine. Babies really can't get too much sleep. If you are really worried you can ask your dr. to put your mind at ease but an hour and a half two hours maximum is how long a baby this age should be awake. If he seems tired even if it's only been 45 minutes let him go back to sleep. I found my days were better when I just trusted that she knew how much sleep she needs and let her snooze.

My son was just doing the same thing! From what I can tell it was a pretty major growth spurt mixed in with some teething.

Babies hit a major growth spurt at about 6 months but that's just an estimate, so it sounds like our little guys just went through them earlier. Don't stress too much momma and let that baby sleep -- growing is hard work!
