i'm having problems with my baby at night..whenever she wakes up,she wants to feed and it can go on for about an hour..after that she'll start waking up after every hour for milk,if i try to pat her to go back to sleep she'll start screaming..I'm not sure if she's doing that because she'll be hungry or maybe just wants to feel close to me but it is draining me..any solutions will be greatly appreciated.

Raewyn, I don't know how you could let your baby cry for 2 and a half hours!! I sure couldn't ...I sure wouldn't.

Both of my children were not great sleepers and my 8 month old still wakes every couple of hours either wanting his soother or a feed. My 2 year old did the same and we slowly and very fairly encouraged her to sleep longer with no crying. You can do it too. But slowly is the most fair way to encourage a baby to modify their behaviour. Going from one night of comfort to the next night of CIO is cruel.

I know it's tiring and sleep deprivation is a killer, but not all babies learn to sleep through till 18 months to 2 years and to force them to do it before they are ready is not fair. (Do we force babies to crawl or walk?) It makes it even harder when you hear about or read about other babies that have been sleeping through since they were 8 weeks old or you hear that some people use CIO and now their baby sleeps through - it is tough. I just try to treat my babies the way I would want to be treated as a baby (or when I'm an elderly person and they are caring for me!) Good luck. Things will get better soon.

Both my kids did this and I refuse to feed them milk at night (after 4 months of age). You can try replacing milk with water to start with. Some bubs lose interest if it's just water and won't bother waking again. Otherwise I would try letting her cry it out. Go in and pat her every once in a while so she knows you're still there but don't feed her. My son has stamina - it was 2.5hrs of crying the first night before he finally exhausted himself, but by the end of a week he was down to just waking long enough to want his dummy then he went back to sleep. Turns out he just wanted comfort sucking.
Good luck with whatever you try :)

It could be a growth spurt. Babies will often start waking more to eat when they are going through a growth spurt. Give it some time. It should pass soon.

Ok Maud... I really hope she's not sleeping too much during the day. Try giving her a bath just before her bedtime.

Maud, my baby does this too... well, she's irregular, but her feeding is less than 10 mins. There was a time she used to sleep 4-5 hrs straight, I just donno what happened. Have you tried letting her cry it out? How are her daytime naps? Could it be that she has her days and nights reversed? You could try letting her cry it out during the day to see 1) how long she will cry and 2) whether she will be able to soothe herself back to sleep. A few times I've let my baby cry at night and in less than 5 minutes goes back to sleep... I think sometimes we unintentionally program them to expect us to pick them at their first cry... Good luck... my two cents.
