My daughter has been grunting for about 2 months now. I don't know is she is trying to copy the dogs or what....
Is anyone else going through this??

my son has been growling since he was about four months old. Now he also said mama while he is growling and it sounds so weird i thought it would hurt his throat but he keeps doing it and then giggles afterwords.

My daughter has also been grunting for awhile now. It's completely hilarious, because here is this beautiful little girl and she just sounds so evil - it makes her just that more adorable. I am glad to hear that other babies are doing the same!

My son likes to grunt too, and we don't have any dogs in the house. I take it to mean that he is slightly annoyed.

My little man is 7 and 1/2 months old and he's been grunting and growling for about a month. Im pretty sure that thats just how infants experiment with the different sounds they can make. Its cute, enjoy it while it lasts :)

Is it the "poopy" grunt or the talking "growl" lol. Mine does both. She scared an old lady at the grocery store. :)

My daughter has been doing the same thing, I thought she was getting sick so i rushed her to the doctor but all he said was that they like to experience differant noises, the grunt makes a vibration in their throat that bubs like.

Oh girl, Willow has been grunting since she was about 2months old. At first it was just when she was tired. Now it's more frequently. It's funny.

my daughter will be 8mos on Easter Sunday, this whole week she has been growling. its so funny. i get worried she is going to hurt her throat. i don't know if she is testing her voice to see what all the sounds are that she can do. she use to make a high pitch squeal but now has turned to a deep growl.

My little girl does the same thing, she also has this very high pitched noise that she lets out...we call her a little bird; it will make your ear drum ring in side your head. It's so funny though because she has this huge smile on her face and she is looking right at me when she does it as if she is talking to me and I'm the one who should just know what she is saying....I just talk with her and it's as if we are having a conversation.

My daughter grunts aswell, we find it hilarious... especially when she does it when we say her name to try and get her attention! It's like "Leave me alone Mum!"
She did it to me the other day while I was trying to feed her, she just wanted to play with Daddy (because he was making silly faces) and growled at me whenever I tried to put the spoon to her mouth!

It's nothing to worry about. Each child needs to discover how to use their vocal chords. Growling is a stage where they learn how to move the proper muscles. It's fine to encourage any noise they make, it gets them to make the noise more often and to work the vocals. Pay attention to what you use to imitate their noise and you can notice the change from your throat down to your stomach. While it might be a reflex memory motion for use, it's not to them. Think of it as potty training for the throat :)

My 7 month daughter growled a while back and I thought it was the cutest thing... and when you growled back she growled even harder... at first I thought it was a defense mechanism against her overbearing 2-year old brother but she just seemed to enjoy doing it all the time... her face was adorable too when she did it :-)

my son has been grunting and making weird noises since he was born...i swear he sounded like ET or something. we dont have dogs or anything, i think it's just him playing with his vocal chords and trying out different sounds. it is pretty funny

My daughter kind of growls too. We don't have dogs but we used to put her hands on our face and say "GRRRRR" and she would laugh now she does it on her own. I think it is normal. I wouldn't worry about it. She is probably just copying the dogs :)

lol, i thought I was alone in that. Yet I have so many people around me stating that I say "hun" a lot. It even comes out sometimes after i'm done with my statement. This blessed little girl of mine will definitely be in the grunt mode.

Hahaha My son grunts and growls especially when he is crawling. Not because it's strenuous for him to crawl but because it makes him laugh. Sometimes he gets a really big grunt out and then will burst into a fit of giggles. Between that and his drooling it's like I have a lil bulldog on my hands :)

I had a 'growling' daughter for a few weeks a while ago - she is 7 months also. We were amused by this behaviour and mirrored it back to her lots. I think she blows 'raspberries' for the same reason.
