My daughter sleeps 12-13 hours a night and plays all day without acting tired. If I try to put her down for a nap it is a battle and usually takes her at least an hour to fall asleep, although she will sleep for about 2 hours. Should I keep trying to give her a nap or do you think that her night time sleep is enough for her? She eats wonderfully and is usually in a good mood all day, no breakdowns.

Nazima, my son's bedtime is 10 and he sleeps till about 8:30, but does still get up at least once for a bottle, but sometimes gets up just restless. He naps for an hour to 2 hours tops once during the day.

how come most of the LO here sleep really early?? :) mine would only go to bed when myself and husband go to bed, which can be anything around 10-11pm.. if i work morning shifts, she'l wake up at 730am.. if not, she'll sleep till 9 something.. she has 1 nap at uncertain time, for about 2 hrs.. looks like she's sleeping soo much less than any other child..is it normal?

Maybe try putting her down a little later? If she is sleeping for 2 hrs, she probably needs a nap, but maybe she's not ready yet when you put her down. My son sleeps about 10-11.5 hrs at night but takes 2 naps during the day. He gets cranky and acts tired when I wait too long to put him down, so I know he needs both naps. Your baby may not!

All babies are so different, my son runs on very little sleep compared to some of my friends, but sleep more then some of them too. If she is really fighting it and sleep for two hours, maybe try putting her down later and seeing if an hour or so nap works instead. She also maybe fighting sleep becuz she is having so much fun with her surroundings, everything is still so very new and exciting for them

My daughter is 17 months and she sleeps 11-12 hours at night.. Some days she takes one 2-3 hour nap in the middle of the day; and other days she takes two 1-1/2 hour naps. She is really good about telling me when she wants to lay down, so I just let her make her own schedule!

My son sometimes refuses a nap.. I try to make him take one so that I can get a shower or whatever.. My son goes to bed between 6:30-7:00 pm every night and sleeps until 9:00-10:00 am the next morning.. He will sometimes take a nap around 1:00 pm for an hour to two.. If he takes the nap then he goes to bed around 7:00

I read an article done by the University of Arizona that explained that children that take regular naps during the day have a greater opportunity for their brain to develop. Essentially napping is essential for a child up until four years of age. My baby sleeps well through the night, but I still nap her in the afternoon even if somedays it is a longer nap than others. Article is below http://www.parentdish.com/2010/02/25/sle...

My son is the same way. He goes to bed about 9 at night, and will wake up anywhere between 8 and 9 the next morning.

However his nap time is a bit of a struggle. I'll put him down for his nap and he'll whine in his bed for about 30 minutes, then play for another 30, and then finally fall asleep. Waking up anywhere between 1 to 4 hours later.

I wouldn't be to worried about. I'd still put her down for a nap, every child goes through a stage at some point where they don't want to sleep anymore. When they get to be about 3 they'll do this again. But by that age they really don't have to take a nap anymore.

I think all babies like everyone said are different.. My son sleeps 11-12 hours a day with one nap at 11am-2ish... sometimes he may go for another one the afternoon..he loves his quiet time and sleeps, however his girlfriend, that is a month younger, sleeps just at night...no nap during the day.
My son...gets cranky, puts his head down...he's tired...she is not.. quiet the difference that I see.

my daughter sleeps 11-12 hrs a night and still naps for 1-2 hrs a day.if she doesn't she turns into the devil and wants to go to bed at 5p. i think if she's happy don't worry about it. if it worries you you can always make her take a nap but with the amount of sleep she gets at night there's no harm if she doesn't..all babies are different and it's completely up to you!

I'm no expert, but if she acts perfectly fine during the day, don't push the nap. Some children do just fine without naps, mine will turn into demon child without his! He also isn't sleeping through the night, so I'm sure that plays part in that! Listen to your own intuition, and follow her cues. Not sleepy and generally happy, to me, means you're doing just fine!

I think its all about the total amount of sleep they get in a day, not necessarily how it is broken up. My oldest son who is 4 now, stopped napping at 15 months. My daughter who is 17 months still takes 2 naps a day (one morning for 1 hr, one afternoon for 2 hrs) and then sleeps for 10-11 hrs at night. Its all about the kid. I personally think that if they are getting that much sleep at night, the nap isnt as important. Some days when my daughter sleeps longer at night, she isnt interested in a nap, I still lay her down, but if she isnt asleep after 30 mins, I just get her back up.

My 17mo little boy used to do 3qty 1-1/2 hour naps a day then sleep a good 9-10 hours at night. Now in the last 6 weeks, he has reduced his naps to 1 nap a day usually about 1-2 hours mid day, and still sleeps his 9-10 hours at night. I usually have to force him to nap, he just wants to go go go, but once down he will sleep good. I think keeping them on a schedule of at least a nap a day is good. They need time to re-energize, and grow.

as long as she sleeps through the night don';t worry about her daytime naps unless she is acting grumpy. my son usually sleeps 10 1/2 to 11 hours at night and then has a 1-2 hour nap during the day

my son is 17 months and naps from about 10:30am to about 12:30 and goes to bed about 9 and gets up by 7 some days he goes without a nap but still sleeps his normal night time routine I think as long as she sleeps through the night and thats what works for her then just keep doing it if it works for your schedule too
