Liam goes from a sitting position to a crawl position but then falls flat on his stomach and starts leopard crawling (which is very slow and frustrating) coz he cries as soon as he wants to go somewhere but struggles....how can I teach him to crawl properly? Other babies his age are doing much more already....

my baby isn't 'crawling' on his hands/knees yet.. he's doing a 'military' crawl (as i call it).. he's been rocking more & more on his knees and i'm going to guess that he may 'take off' at some point..
but as hard as it is.. try not to compare your baby to anyone else.. i do that sometimes and realize its all a waste of time, because eventually they come around at their own pace! :)

My baby will be 9 months on May 8th, and the same thing is happening, she pretty much rolls to get to where she wants. Everyone keeps telling me every baby is different..but I understand your frustration. My mom keeps telling me, it'll just happen one day unexpectedly! I have tried to teach her to crawl and work with her, but she gets frustrated with me, so I just let her do her thing. Just stay patient, they'll get it eventually!! :)

my child health nurse asdvised me to place one of his favourite toys just out of his reach (not too far away) to encourage him to crawl a bit more when he first started commando crawling. then really praise him and make a big fuss about it when he's moving towards the toys to get it. I don't know if that helps or not, but I suppose anything that gets them into the practice of doing it must help I guess...

honestly all babies develop on there own ther eis no right time a baby should crawl. some babies never crawl they just go stright into walking. my daughter started crawling at 7 months and climbing on everything. every baby is different!

Izzy only rolls every where and is almost 9 months. She does get up on her knees sometimes but doesn't stay there for long. She twist herself when she is on her belly and she can push her self backwards, so hopefully she will be crawling soon. Good luck he will do it soon i am sure.

dont panic my bub is the same age. he can sit up fine. when put on his tummy heputs his arms back beside him & jerks like he is swimming mermaid style. i have caught him in the last week doing a sort of push up though (on hands & toes). but as soon as he sees me he is straight back on his tummy. he doesnt try to get up on his knees yet but if i put him on them, he sometimes tries to get the motion going.
my nefew didnt crawl til 10 mths then walked a mth later.

I started putting things out of her reach so she would lunge forward to get them so hopefully here in the next month she will get the jist of it and start crawling. Thank you for the advice.

I agree, try not to compare your baby with others! My little guy has been crawling since he was 6 months old and is trying to figure out walking now at 8 1/2 months...I have a friend who's little girl is 10 1/2 months old and is still not crawling "properly". He'll figure it out! My son was army crawling at first and we would just prop him up on his hands and knees until he figured out how to use them! Good luck!

I have an almost 9 month old boy who has been army crawling since just before 8 months. He has no interest in going on his knees since he can get around as is. I started crawling around on the floor while he was on his tummy about a week or two before he started crawling. I don't know if that's why he started crawling but he was interested in what I was doing.

Another thing I did was give him toys that rolled away from him as incentive to go after them. I would also put him on his hands and knees and rock him to give him that feeling. Lastly, I put food out of his reach and he would try to get them. I started by placing them close enough that if he REALLY stretched he could reach them and then moved it farther away.

I have 2 boys that both crawled and my oldest walked 2 weeks before he turned a year old and he started crawling at 7 1/2 months and my youngest son walked at 10 months and started crawling at 6 months and my daughter has no interest in crawling at all so I was concerned she sits up really well and reaches out to grab stuff but you put her on her belly and she just rolls over and lays there.

I have an 8 month old boy who is not crawling either. I also have a 9 year old boy who never crawled. Some kids just dont do it. Mine is getting in the position, rocking back and forth then falls on his stomach. Sometimes he crawls backwards. No need to worry

My daughter is almost 9 months old (May 8th) and she has no interest in crawling so I am not sure what to do. She is about 20lbs so she is a little on the chunky side.

There's no reason to worry. My baby doesn't even try at all to crawl yet- she shows no interest. This is fine yet for this age, and I don't mind it at all- we don't have to keep everything out of her reach yet!

Try not to compare your baby to others.. I know it's sort-of natural, but babies truly all develop at their own pace! Your baby is not behind in any way. He will get it. He may end up just doing it his own way. I know moms with babies who only did the "army crawl" and then went straight to walking.
