Oh the memories...

I want to take a step away from all the criticism and putting down that I've been seeing a lot lately in all the communities I'm in.

I also want to take a step away from all the stressful and overwhelming topics that I know we all need advice and support with.

I want us all to reflect on how precious our little ones are, and how fast this time goes when they are so little and innocent... So with this thread, I want everyone to describe what you are doing to keep this time in your memories.

Let's tell each other what "mementos" of babyhood we are keeping for our children. It'll be interesting to see what other mothers are doing, and maybe we can get ideas from each other!

For my daughter, these are the things I have been doing: I'm keeping a baby book and have been keeping up on it every month so far. I just started a journal for her (which I wish I would've started when she was born or even before) with my thoughts and feelings about her, and what her life has been like and such. I take a million pictures, a lot of which I put in her baby book but many don't fit and I have been doing a bunch of mini-albums with those. I'm also keeping some of my favorite outfits of hers and some special things (like her first Halloween costume, first Christmas stocking, etc.) that I hope to find a chest for someday that I will collect all these things in... maybe moreso for me than for her!

I like the journal idea too but I have a boy and I don't think boys appreciate that kind of thing as much as girls hehe (correct me if I'm wrong). BUt I will certainly try the journal idea if I have a girl :) Maybe even give her the journals when she gets engaged or some momentous occasion like that. My mum gave me my late grandmother's engagement ring just before I moved overseas and that meant a lot to me. Keepsakes are so special! Great ideas Cynthia! Your little girl is lucky to have you for a mum :)

I also still have Molly's stuff from the hospital! (Bracelets, hat, blanket they gave her, name card that was on her bassinet.)

I have a hard time getting rid of almost anything, as she will most likely be my only child. My boyfriend has a daughter that lives with us also, and as of now we don't have the room or means to even start thinking about another. (Also, he's not too keen on the idea in general ;) hehe.)

I got the journal idea from someone else, and that's why I didn't start writing one sooner. I hope that someday she will appreciate it. I'm not sure when I'll give it to her... as we all know, teenagers appreciate NOTHING lol so I'll probably wait til she's an adult sometime. Maybe when she's pregnant with her own child :) I guess when the time is right for me to give it to her, I will know :)

I agree great thread :) I only just discovered it so give it time and more people will reply :)
Some of those ideas are really great! I haven't really even thought about it so thanks for the ideas ;) I guess that's the problem with technology these days, I have just been keeping photos on the computer but I love the big old photo albums that my mother has of me and my siblings as kids. I think I will start making one of those with little milestones in there like 1st smile, 1st tooth. There's nothing like being able to pull a big album from the shelf rather than just viewing them on the computer. :)

Great thread! I'm keeping a baby book for my daughter (which I wish I would have started sooner), taking TONS of photos and videos (especially when she is with my grandparents...they are so special to me and it makes me sad that they probably won't be around long enough for my daughter to remember them, so I always take videos of them holding and playing with her). I also want to get some sort of keepsake box that I can put all of her stuff from the hospital in (I still have the brush, hat, and wrist bands), and some favorite outfits, which will be hard to choose as I love them all, lol. I also have a memory book from my baby showers. I LOVE your idea about keeping a journal of how you feel about her and what her life has been like. I might just have to do that too ;-)

Wow, a whole two responses... I expected more (guess I shouldn't have went into it with any expectations). Thanks, ladies, for your responses! I can't believe that more people aren't saving or making keepsakes for their babies... but maybe it's just too much to ask for people to put aside their differences and stress to answer a post that's simply about enjoying your baby's life! That makes me sad :( Again, thank you ladies for your responses :)

Its hard to believe how fast the time has past. Our babies aren't just babies anymore. For my daughter we have started a baby book and kept her clothes and bracelets from the hospital. We also saved the local paper from the day she was born. I am currently working on a scrapbook of her first year that I hope to give her as a present on her first birthday. As far as clothes we have saved everything since she is our first and you never know!
