My daughter has been on solids for about a month now. She was doing fine on them but now seems to get constipated a lot. First time it happened I gave her some prunes and that worked but she seems to be constipated again and the prunes havent worked. She did have a hard poop yesterday but nothing since. How often should she be pooping now that shes on solids? When I was just breast feeding her she sometimes wouldnt go for a week which I know is normal but now that shes on solids Im not sure. I have cut our the rice and oatmeal cereal because I read that can sometimes be a cause but it is still happening. Last few days Ive just been breast feeding because Im scared to cause anymore problems!! She doesnt seem uncomfortable except for when she is passing her poop.

I am sort of having this problem. She is happy and fine until she poops. It just started to day. I I have been giving her is a jar of squash and then A table spoon of rice cereal and apple saulse twords the evening and she is still fully breast feeding on top of that. And has juice and water at times too.

You might want to call your pediatrion. But when my daughter has bowel problems I give her a tiny amount of Mirlax in her milk. but not much just enough to help her go. But only do it if you ask the doctor to see if its ok. But it works.

I have identical twin boys and we are going through the same problem. I breastfeed as well and they are also on solids three times a day including meats. I have taken them off of meat and the cereals for two days now and have not seen an improvement, I also have given prunes. Nothing seems to work for us so far. They are passing BM's everyday but they are just little hard turds. Sorry that we couldn't help but I hope that we can help each other through trial and error!

This happened when my daughter started solids also. I'd say feed her the same food for at least a couple days to see which foods are causing the constipation, I know with my daughter the biggest one is green beans lol. My doctor suggested adding a tablespoon of baby prune juice to 4-5 oz bottles. I do this when I notice her poop getting thicker, but not all the time because it can give them a tummy ache.

Definitley ask your pediatrician!! Our doctor said not to let them go past 2 full days without pooping. I can tell you that the natural laxitive juices are pear, peach, prune, & apple. They say to warm them a little and that will help it work faster. It is hard to see them struggle knowing that their little tummies hurt! Good luck, I hope you find some answers!!

I had the same problem with my son when i introduce solid food, so i tried to give him only vegetable and fruits, i avoided any meaty food ( chicken,beef,....), and also i gave him gripe water before every meal; but he didn't have any problem with rice cereal.

I hope it helps, but also remember that every child is different.
