Potty Training

My daughter will be two on the 25 and I have been trying to potty train her and have got her the seats and chairs everything and she, will tell mepotty but when I try, to put her on the potty she freaks out should I just, wait until she decides to go on her own so shes not scared of it???

This is my 2nd boy to train. And he wanted to do it. A lil easier b/c he watches his brother. Best tips r let her see u go or hear u going and tell her what it is. This is where we pee. Make it seem fun to wave bye to the pee as u flush. When he starts to go on the floor sometimes i can get him to stop and put him on the pot quick. Make sure potty is close. When not in pot don't make her feel bad but say uh oh we don't pee on the floor/in our undies we go pee in the potty. Try putting her on after accident to try for more, but M&Ms for a pee and 2 for a 2 really worked when my first got the idea. Just encourage and def. Do a dance and song when she does it right! ;)

I agree and I wasn't planning on starting until much later. Problem I had was my LO decided she didn't want to wear diapers anymore. She either has to wear diapers or we work on potty training! Sometimes she does well with the potty, other days she doesn't.

Talked to my pediatrician, and he commented that most children are not mentally or physically ready to potty train until around 3. I was told if they show resistance, to back of and try again in a couple of weeks. No point in both being miserable right?!

My sister, who has a boy who's 3, suggested I try a plastic cover over her underwear. It protects the furniture like a diaper but lets her feel the uncomfortableness of being wet. I haven't picked one up yet, but will probably do so by next weekend.

I am having the same issues - we have been potty training for about 3 months!!! I have attempted the underwear thing but she didn't care that she was wet - she picks and chooses when she wants to use the bathroom - usually 2 times a day but not anymore..It is actually starting to become frustrating.

I tried the 3 day method. That didn't work so well and the end of the first day both she & I were so frustrated we gave up on it. What I found more helpful was a 3 strikes and diaper on. I also put a diaper on her for bedtime & long trips (longer than 15 minutes.) She also prefers to use 1 potty seat that fits over the 'big potty' than the other two chairs we have. Its also helpful because its good for traveling. I can fit it in her diaper bag without too much hassle. I also give her stickers for each time she sits on the potty & attempts to potty. She does not need to succeed to get the sticker, but needs to make a good try at it.

We just got back from a 3 day weekend vacation. On the way back she wore a diaper, but each rest stop she got a chance to potty & the last rest stop she requested we stop for 'potty.' She managed to hold most of it until we could find a rest stop, reminding herself 'wee sticker, wee sticker' till we got there.

Do you think that 3-day method would work on a little boy as well. I have a 22 month old son that I have been trying to potty train but he just doesn't seem to get the idea. I mean he'll give all the signs that he has to go..pulling on his diaper and squating in random places but as soon as I put him on the potty he won't do anything.

My little one is the same way. She is going to be two in August and does almost EXACTLY the same this. She is very smart too, she even tells me if she peed or pooed. I know she can do it, but she just won't.SO, I know what you are going through.

I am potty training my 22 month old and she is stubborn I have been doing it for about a month now trying everyone's tips and tricks she doesn't run around naked or wear diapers thats why it has been taking me so long when I let her run around naked she did good until I put the panties on her then she would pee in them so now I have to retrain with the panties on I don't ever put her in diapers even at night they just confuse her I just stick with panties yes you are going to have a lot of accidents at first but it gets better I have a sticker chart for her and she gets a piece of candy every time she goes in the potty and not in her panties its really working she is doing great! I have also started with my Aug 31st DD, using the 3-day cold turkey method. basically you let her go around the house with nothin on for the first 2 days while taking her to the potty every 30 mins. lots of praise and clapping ofcourse when she gets it done in the potty. you will have tons of accidents all around the house but each passing day it will be less and less and she will get the hang of it. im on day 3 right now, wearing big girl undies. Hope it works! also keep pull ups on for nap time and at night unless you're very sure she wont go. Hope that helps :)
