Potty Training Started?

Has anyone else started to potty train their 18 mon. old? My daughter hangs out with her cousins that are older and potty training. She has started to recognize when she goes and runs to the bathroom. I think that it would be the first step in starting to potty train her.
Has anyone else started to potty train?

I just introduced the potty chair to my son. Our pediatrician advised me to set one up and let him get used to it but not force the issue. He actually sat on it tonight (he's big on mimicking behavior!). I've been told that girls are easier to train than boys and if you start too early the child uses to potty to please you, not because they understand what they need to do and will regress.

I'm in the beginning stages of training my daughter. She doesn't like to be in a wet or soiled diaper which is great for training. She talks a lot already and tells me when she pees and goes to the bathroom. My advice: let your child guide you instead of you guiding the child. It would be great if they got it right away, but that's not always reality. I have a son who is almost three and still isn't quite there yet. Be patient, it will happen.

My son does both in the potty. He can't say when he has to go but, he taps on the front. I was amazed that at such a young age he is learning. I say get a potty. My son doesn't like to go on a regular potty yet...too high. The little ones are just fine. Also, keep books, toys, etc it distracts him and keeps him on the potty for #2. I hope this helps.

no, he follows his older brother and sister too, his excitment is flushing the toliet and watching things go down. i think it is still early. they say when they are waking up with dry diapars in the morning it means they can hold their pee and are ready, so mine isnt

I wasn't in a rush to toilet train my daughter but noticed she started pointing to her nappy while she went, so we decided to get her a potty and build up her interest in using it (nothing too serious, not even training pants/pull-ups yet til after she starts realising BEFORE she pees and does her first one on the potty).
The child health nurse surprised me a little by saying to not rush into it and that the majority of younger chn who are toilet-trained take longer, and that the optimal age is 2 and a 1/4. Though I think ot depends on if the individual is showing signs of being ready.
She also highlighted that a child needs to be able to pull their own pants up and down before they can be actually classed as being 'toilet-trained'.

I'm with Tricia. I bought the potty chair and I take my son into the bathroom to show him. He will sometimes tell me when he needs to poo, so I've tried to get him to go. It's not happened yet. I heard many say different things and I'm not going to rush my lil man. I think he is interested but still a little skepitical.

Hi my daughter Willow Mina is now potty trained, she was 16 months, was off course here in NZ summer season took 5-6 weeks to master it but is doing well, even naps in the arvo with no nappy on, wakes up and goes to the toilet. Goes onto the toilet for both, the key lots of knickers to change into, patience, listening carefully, praise. And its all paid off, so absolutely possible. She has not trouble at her kohanga - where she goes to daycare.

I have not.
My little one shows signs she understands occasionally. Like hiding when she goes poop in her diaper.
I just know that I'll just stress myself out for a longer period of time if I start too soon.
I did a Thesis on Toilet Training and found out some things that have helped me understand what will probably work much better for everyone.
The average age for girls to be fully potty trained is about 2 1/2 years... Boys average is around 3 years. That isn't even at night... so be patient :)
The less you intervene, I think the more success your little one will have and the less stressed out you will both be. Oh, and pull-ups tend to be a huge waste of money and prolongue the toilet training process.

I have a 2 1/2 year old that I am busy trying to potty train and we've had good days and bad days but I don't see an end in sight!! So needless to day, I am not starting with my 18 month old yet. I think he understands the concept, but actually sitting on the potty hasn't happened yet. Should I be sitting him on the potty now??

We have a potty chair and she watches me use the restroom, but that's about it other than being able to take off her diaper. At least she is no longer taking apart the chair and scattering the parts through the apartment!

I have been putting my daughter on the potty, she is about to turn 18 months. She loves watching me on the toilet and is fascinated. I am hoping that I can potty train her properly in the next couple of months as number 2 is due when she turns 23 months. When I have mentioned this to some people they seem a little worried that I am trying to force her too soon but I am working at her pace and from what I can tell that is the best way to train them. She likes sitting on the potty but only does poos/wees half the time so I think I still have a little to go before she is as far as yours.

Nika was 4 months old the 1st time we put her on the potty. We've been putting herbon the potty since then and we would sign potty when we did. Once she turned about 10 months she started signing potty back. Now at 18 months she has some accident and doesn't like to poo in te potty but other then that she's pretty much potty trained

I've kinda thought about it. I got her a little potty and the other night I saw her making her "grunty" face so I put her on it and she made a poop! That has been it though. She doesn't seem very interested and I'm not completely ready to chase her around all day with the potty...

We started about a month ago just introducing him to the potty. He has a cute little potty that plays music when he goes potty in it. He doesn't pee or bm in it all the time but it like 50-50...we arent pushing him to go but we arent going to discourage starting this early. and I hear boys are harder to potty train than girls...

Hello Kristina, my girl was potty trained by the age of 20 months. She stopped using day and night nappies altogether. Similar situation to the one you are in at the moment. However my little boy, 18 months at the moment, has no clue or whatsoever what needing a wee means :-) Good luck with potty training

My daughter was 100% potty trained at 17 months old, except for night time. We taught her sign language and she ran around for about a month with no pants or diaper on, so I stayed on top of her going. It all depends on the child's interest.

My daughter will be 18 months at the end of the month. If you ask her if she has to go potty, she runs to the bathroom and stands at the toilet waiting for you to help her. We've had a successful BM on the toilet, but nothing more.

My son is 18months and I would like to start potty training. Some people say its too early and he will be a cronic bed wetter if I start this early. He can tell me when he boo boo. What should I do?

When i take my little ones diaper off she can usually hold going pee for about 1.5 - 2 hours before having to pee! But she doesn't know when she has to go so it just goes where ever.. I guess soon enough she will know when shes gotta go to the bathroom.

My son will be 18 months on monday. I just bought a potty chair and am going to start "introducing" the idea to him. I think it will be a while still before we are done with diapers but I figure I can ease him into it. I thought it was time to show him what a potty was when he was naked getting ready for a bath and peed on my bathroom floor!! We'll see how it goes once the potty chair gets here.

I tried for 3 days, and he got the concept down, but I don't think he could tell when he had to start peeing. He would start peeing where ever he was and then stop and run to the bathroom and pee on the bathroom floor. So he got the concept of the bathroom, which made cleaning up easier. I decided to wait another month and try again.
