Besides formula or breast milk, just wondering if any one is feeding their August babies rice cereal or puree vegetables... If so when and how much? Caleb has started rice ceral before bed and veggies around dinner time... Trying to get a schedule for his feedings but not sure how! What about water and juices??? I'M SOO CONFUSED!

Just breastmilk for us. I'm in no hurry. Solids are a pain! Besides the fact that it's been shown to be healthier for them to wait.

Has everyone been following their pediatrician's advice? I would caution giving too many foods at only 4 months because their primarily diet should still be formula or breastmilk until 1 year. It isn't until at least 6 months that an infant should be fed anything other than formula/BM more than once a day. The AAP actually suggests breastfeeding exclusively until at least 6 months of age. To Juanita, I would suggest trying to sweeten your little one's cereal with something other than honey. It has been proven to cause botulism in infants. As for my little one, we have been attempting rice cereal for about a week and half now. He doesn't really like it, but I won't try anything new until this Friday. I will attempt sweet potatoes and continue that for about a week without the cereal to see if it upsets his tummy or causes any allergies. It's recommended you introduce foods slowly at 4-6 months and do so only one at a time. If your babies are doing fine, continue what you're doing. I just want to let all the mommies so far what I have researched or been told. I would just hate for someone's little one to have a severe allergic reaction to a food they've ate, and you wouldn't be able to figure out what caused it.

Naomi is on both rice cereal and baby food ( pea, apples and sweet potatoes so far). My doctor told me no juice or water yet. I do cereal @ lunch and baby food @ dinner..right now she does 1/4 cup cereal and 1/2 jar of baby food....I mix the cereal with apple juice for flavor. No set schedule though..grrrr...if anyone masters this let me know..

my son will officially be 4 months tomorrow. I started putting just about 1tsp of rice cereal in his formula at about 2 months as he had a spit up problem. Now he likes the rice cereal which he has for breakfast, with just a little bit of formula, mid afternoon he gets fruit with some more water and dinner time he gets a 5oz formula. He will have another bottle of formula around 10pm beofre he goes to bed and get another one at 5am when he wakes up.

Hi Deanna, I think your doing a fab job. There is no harm at all with what your doing. I like that your introducing these foods to him. I think that if you give him something new to try, probably best to do it earlier in the day just in case he is up all night with a belly ache. As for the water and juices, not too sure if they should get it this early in age as I believe the milk gives them the top up of any iron and vitamins they need to keep them healthy and growing. You may need to see your doctor or even call the midwives at the hospital. They will be sure to help you out.

I have tried rice cereal in the mornings for breakfast, but my son hates it so i have put in some puree fruit to give it a bit of flavour. the first week i only gave him a spoonful to get his body used to it, then the second week we moved to 2 spoonfuls. We are now on our 4th week and we do a 3 spoonfuls in the morning, and we do some dinner of a night. For dinner i usually steam up some veggies and puree them, or you can buy some Heinz food for 4-6months old. I try and offer him water a few times a day also, sometimes he takes it...sometimes he wont.

my boy is now 4.5 months old and I have started him on a little farex (cereal) for lunch each day. I now have put a little honey in it to make it a little more pleasant and I also have a bottle ready so when he takes a little in his mouth I let him wash it down with the bottle. I feel this helps him open his throat up more to allow to swallow down something a little more solid then just milk. It will also help his digestive system get used to feeling a little more heavy and reduce and belly upsets. He watches us all eat so I usually let him try what ever we are eating, such as vegemite, oranges, tomato sauce, ice cream etc. So far it has been very good and there has been no alergic reactions or stomach upsets.

lately i have started trying to get my son into some kind of rountine and i gree its sooo hard he usually wakes up between 8 and 9 so as soon as hes awake i feed him half a bottle then he has either a quater of a rusk or banana baby porridge or baby rice hes doesnt seem fussy with breakfast i then finish him on his bottle clean him up and change him i did that for about a week then i decided to start giving him a little dinner aswell i am just using jars instead of doing it myself as i really dont have the time so i usualy feed him about 7 spoons of a dinner and give him some babies juice which he doesnt seem keen on i just gie him a different dinner and breakfast everyday and try to vary it so hes tries lots of different things i found that when he started having food he slept through the night so thats always a bonus x

my daughter absolutely wil not eat cereal! we've tried both rice and oatmeal flavors multiple timesbut she isnt having it. she likes sweet potatoes, pears, and bananas. She has just started drinking juice, though she doesn't care too much for the white grape flavor. She does seem to like apple juice, though. As far as a system or a schedule goe, i haven't got that down yet
