My son is now 8 months old but a month ago he had his first of two needles for the swine flu. He had huge reactions to it such as 39+ temps vomitting, dehidrating ending in a hospital visit and now has had a cold for the last month we cannot get rid of. Doctors say it's worth getting the second one done still but i want to know your opinion. i dont really want to put him through it again... would you put your little ones through it knowing the risk?

My husband and I decided not to give our 8 month old the swine flu immunisations. Every one has a different opinion on this one.... but there simply has not been enough research done with this immunisation. It came on the market really fast and didn't have time to do the years of research as is done with all other types.

I havent gotten it for any of my 3 children... to me the risk of having adverse reactions is way greater then their chances of getting h1n1 virus... Especially since my famioy has had SEVERE reactions to vaccines in the past.

Took a while but I found the story. I had heard under the age of 2 still needed it but I guess I was incorrect. All the different news sources here were saying different age groups.
I agree Nicole, the governments are making its own choices on what to inform us about, and the people making the money on this is horrible!
I personaly dispise shots and if I have to get one then it better damn well be life and death. I get sick 2 times a year max, I work at Tim Hortons (Coffee/fastfood) and I was pregnant when the first outbreak happened. I left the store within two months for maternity leave. But I was seriously considering getting the shot then, but I stay at home most of the time and wash my hands a lot. I force my husband to always wash his hands ( bugger gets sick once every two years or more)
Just my two cents, but I mean if people feel the need to get it then go for it. I wont be getting it because I have an allergic reaction to eggs its best I dont get it.

Thanks for that guys...i was definatley leaning towards not getting him the second one as like heather my son is home with me and my partner and our house is always clean...but i didn't know if i was being selfish!!!

Really interesting to know kirsty because in Australia doctors are pushing for the two shots a month appart!!

I think it's safe to say i will not be getting the second one done!!! Thanks for your reasuring comments that its not just me being selfish!!

Heather i personally dont think you should put the little one through it!! It was horrible to watch him like that and know i was the cause...it's amazing how quickly doctors and clinic nurses can push you into it!!

I wouldn't put my 8 month old through it....yes it is a new virus but the government fails to inform citizens that the regular flu is worse than the swine flu....i feel that the swine flu is just another way to make money...regardless i haven't gotten the flu shot or the swine flu shot, if like what kristy crosby said, if it becomes something like polio or mumps then i'll get it....my daughter has all her other vaccines, it's a matter of making sure your son's hands are always clean, and that random people aren't consistently touching your baby or in his face...it's all a matter of being smart about it...

There is no point in putting your son through that again. just my opinion

I haven't been sure what to do about that, either. I haven't yet taken my daughter (7 months old) to get a Swine flu injection. She spends most of her days at home with me, and my husband and I both got the shot to protect HER in the fall, when she was too young to have one anyway. I have been debating whether or not to get it for her, but after hearing what your little guy experienced, must admit I'm less inclined to do so! I know it's been a topic of debate as to whether 1 or 2 shots is required for kids... I guess I'd say just follow your mommy instincts. I'll admit... I'm kind of leaning towards not getting it for my daughter.

In Canada they say only one is enough for children. That is the doctors and Health Canada stating this. I honestly don't care for this "epidemic" I dont believe in flu shots, however my child has every other vaccine, when it becomes like polio or mumps then I will get it.
