My daughter will be 6 months on the 27. She has cereal in the morning, about 30 min to an hour later she will take a 6 oz bottle. For lunch she has a solid food (right now we are trying turkey dinners) and then she waits a little while and has another 6 oz bottle and then for dinner she eats rice cereal with apples and has her last 6 oz bottle. If she acts hungry between all her feedings I'll give her a 4 oz bottle but that is very seldom.

my son will be 28weeks on the 20th Feb and i started him on 2 courses, 3 times a day when he was 5 months old.
7am he has 240-260ml bottle
8am weetbix mixed with his milk, pear and banana, about a tablespoon of each, then fruit with yoghurt
11am bottle 120-180mls
12pm he has lunch of pureed homemade veggies and chicken and then pureed fruits mixed with natural yoghurt about a tablespoon on each
3pm bottle, he normaly only has 100mls if any of this bottle
5pm is dinner, same as lunch
6:30pm a 120ml bottle and bed at 7pm
he doesnt really eat a lot compared to other babies i know his age but he is in the right percentile for his weight, and some days he will eat more, other days he will eat less.

I have a six month old girl, she is my 3rd child and my doctor told me to start her on meats first (along with the baby cereal) because it is higher in iron for them, then work on to the vegetables, and lastly fruits. And to introduce one food at a time over 3 or so days so you can detect which food could be causing an allergy.

your baby needs vegs (carrots, sweet potatoe, etc) and meat (chicken, beef, etc). they need the iron. fruit once a day is too much, you should try limiting it because you could have a picky eater (no vegs, or any healthy foods), or you could rot their upcoming teeth.

my daughter will be six months next week and she still just gets formula although I put oatmeal cereal in each bottle to prevent her from spitting up (she is on alimentum, which is very thin). At my last well visit the doctor said she was doing great and getting all her vitamins and nutrients from her formula so she was fine without anything extra for now.

My son turned 6 months on the 14th. He is 99% only on breastmilk, as we first tried a very thin cereal a few days ago. He is not so keen on it yet, so we try it once each day. This is my third baby and my other two were on foods solid by now, but this little guy is different. He is also slightly behind the curve physically, but the Dr. is not worried, so neither are we.

My son is almost 6 months and I offer him cereal 20 min after his morning feed. He either wants it or won't open his mouth. Same with lunch (banana and avacardo) and tea (sweet veges with a bit of meat juice). As long as he's having his recommended bottles then I don't stress about him not eating.

My son is 6 months (and 20 pounds) and at the moment his feeding schedule is:
Wake up (7:30-8ish) - 6 oz bottle
mid morning - baby cereal and 4 oz bottle
mid afternoon - 6 oz bottle
dinner - veggie and 4 oz bottle
before bed (7-8ish) - 6 oz bottle
I am not trying any of the stage 2 foods for a little while because of all the digestive problems that can occur when you try them too soon. They need to develop the proper digestive enzymes before they can have certain foods. Some people say their kids are just fine, and I'm sure they are, but a lot of the digestive problems that happen from feeding certain foods too early, don't even show up until later on. Just not a chance I want to take when he's very happy and thriving with the cereal and veggies right now. Once we try a wide variety of veggies, then I'll introduce some fruit.
We've been making our own baby food too and I can't believe how easy it is!

I think I'm pretty much on track with you all..but I am concerned that maybe we're not feeding my baby girl enough? She just turned 6 months and she is still drinking 26 oz of formula and breastmilk/day. She eats a very small amt of fruit and baby rice cereal 1-2x a day, plus maybe a veggie. She only weighs 14.5 lbs (which is tiny)...so a 4oz bottle is a big task for her. She also can't eat more than a tablespoon or two of baby fruit or veg or rice. She saw her Ped yesterday who said "she is in the 25th percentile for weight but that she's petite and that she is eating enough"...but he was a bit rushed with patients too...I'm just curious if anyone else has a 6-month old baby who is only about 14-15 lbs (and was not born prematurely) and has any advice on how much to feed? (American Moms answer only please...we don't do "tea or pudding or porridge" here, so that really doesn't help me, sorry! :) Thanks Moms!

its good that you are feeding him formula but drs recomend cereal only on occasion before the age of 1 because of the extremely high content of iron in it. and a babies main source of nutrition should be from formula till age 1....so i think you are gettin on the right track. also fruit has almost no nutritional value just empty calories and some vitamin C, so you should try giving him vegitables instead. feeding too much fruit too early wires a baby to be a picky eater that wont eat veggies when they are older. what i do is put a little fruit in her veggies for a twist and you will have the best luck with orange veggies first :) lilly loves sweet potatoes! i hope everything goes well for you!

My daughter ( 5 1/2 months) is eating cereal once a day mixed with fruit because she doesn't like the taste of cereal on its own, I also give her a few bites of veggies. Otherwise, she drinks from the bottle mostly, don't fret, every baby is a different person and they all eat differently!

My daughter is a little over 6 months, and I nurse her on demand during the day (about every 4 hrs.). She also gets 4tbsp. Cereal in the morning, and a veg, and fruit in the evening while we eat dinner. My pediatrician told me that she should be getting the most from the milk, and eating the "meals" is kinda practice for when she starts eating regular meals. sounds like your son is right on track to me.

Hi there. My son Jack is now six months old. He has his bottle before each meal (bottle 4 x per day). He has baby cereal for breakfast, fruit and farex for lunch and veges for dinner. Babies still get a lot of their nutrients from either breast milk or formula, they still need around 600ml per day and gradually wean off. Start weaning off milk at the lunchtime feed. Offer water or diluted juice instead of milk with their solids.

Hi DeShelle. I have a son that is going to be 6 months on the 28th. He has been eating fruits and veggies since he was 4 months. My doctor recommended that I make the fruits and veggies consistent during the day, making them meals for him. My son gets his first bottle with cereal when he wakes up, then every feeding after that he gets veggies or I'll give him half veggies and half fruit, followed by a 6 oz bottle with cereal. Then I usually give him fruit with his last bottle The dr also recommended to make a 6 oz bottle with 1 tablespoon of the cereal of your choice due to them not getting all the iron that they need from the fruits and vegetables. I recommend using a whole grain cereal as opposed to rice cereal, because rice cereal is single grain and can make their stools harder and they won't use the bathroom as often. Now that he is on a whole grain cereal he poops a good 3-4 times a day. I hope that helps somewhat.

My son is nearly 6 months and was started on rice cereal in the morning at four months and when he turned five months we started him on solids. He gets a fruit (bananas, applesauce, pears or peaches) mixed in with his cereal in the am, a veggie with watered down juice for lunch and a veggie followed by a fruit for dinner. In between meal times and before bed he will get 8 oz bottles. He does very well with this schedule and sleeps 8-9 hours every night with a 2 hour nap during the day. Before he always seemed to be hungry but now he is super content.

He just started meat. Only get formula to drink as we are not recommend to give anything other then breast or formula till 9-12 months.

Breastmilk, breastmilk, breastmilk.
Tomorrow my daughter will be 6 months old. Today we gave her a first taste of avocado mashed with breastmilk. I chose avocado because it is eaten raw, with all its enzymes, which help us digest. It's high fat content also is beneficial to brain growth.
In 2 weeks we will try a new food. I'm thinking sweet potato. We will not give any grains until she is 7+ months old because infants don't make all the enzymes needed to fully digest grains until 7-9 months, despite the common practice of starting with rice cereal quite early.
My daughter is sitting unassisted, one readiness test for introducing solids.
By the way, not a single medical body worldwide recommends introducing foods before 6 months. After having an older child with gut issues and food sensitivities, I don't understand the rush.

My little guy wakes up and breastfeeds then after a little playtime we have 2 tbl spoons of rice cereal mixed with a tablespoon of fruit breastfeeds until lunch when he wants and before his nap. For Lunch we have a tablespoon of a veggie with a little rice cereal mixed in for texture. Breastfeeds in between and before his nap. For dinner we do 2 tbl spoons of rice cereal and either a tbl of a veg or a fruit.. Then breastfeeds afterwards and before bed.. and any other time he wants. And wakes up for a sip at night. If his naps run too long we do sometimes skip a solid feeding. Dont know if im doing it right, but hes happy and healthy... except for his 2 bottom teeth that are bothering him!

Joe will eat pretty much anything I give him, so I try and keep it as healthy as possible, mainly fruit and veges with a bit of rice cereal. Zucccini, mushrooms, sweet potato, pumpkin, potato, pear, cherries, even dragonfruit! He is still breast fed and will only have one to two meals per day. Any more than that and he starts chucking, he hasn't dropped any breast feeds.

I see that some moms have started stage 2 foods with their kids. How is that working out? I read somewhere they need to be sitting up alone unsupported for stage 2 to make sure their digestive systems were ready.
Any feedback on that? Are you kids sitting up alone without support? How are they taking the stage 2 compared to stage 1? My son goes through 2 jars of stage 1 at a time about 2 times a day.

My son turned 6 months on the 3rd (he was 4.5 weeks early) and eats a 6-7oz bottle at 7am and sometimes a tbsp or 2 of cereal w/ fruit, naps until about 10:30am and eats a 5oz bottle and 1/2 a 2nds fruit jar, another 6oz bottle at 2:30pm, naps until about 3:30pm, another 6 oz bottle at 5pm, plays for a while then eats a 6oz bottle at about 8pm and a 1/2 jar of vegges, naps until about 11pm, eats another 6oz bottle at 11:30-midnight then sleeps until morning. He did real well when we first started cereal at 4.5 months but started refusing all solids about a month ago. We keep trying a few times a day since he is always hungry...but it's something that changes day by day. My pediatrician says thats normal but it sounds like he's on the right track : )

my son was 6 months on the 2nd. He started with rice cereal at 5 and a half months. He was eating one meal, dinner until this week when i started him with breakfast as well. Typically he'll start with breastfeeding at 8, breakfast is 2 tbsp of oat cereal and some mashed fruit (we just started givinghim fruit this week), breast fed throughout the day with a mum mum cookie in there somewhere. Dinner is a mixture of veg. I make my own puree, but am leaving it more lumpy these days. He loves avacado and has also had sweet potatoes, zucchini, peas, squash, carrots and brocolli. We've found that zucchini is the best for solving any constipation issues :). Andrew is a good size and is really enjoying all the new foods. I love catching his expression when he's trying out new food, priceless! Brocolli was the best!
