My pediatrician said to wait until 4 months because babies' GI systems aren't developed enough yet to process the cereal. By that time they should be able to sit up with some support & that's something your doctor will probably check before OKing cereal.

I gave my 3.5 month old cereal last night, and only used a small amount to make sure it didn't upset his tummy (it didn't). BUT, he was awake more times than ever in the night - could any of the ingredients given him something resembling a sugar high? (Olgiofructose is in it: Isn't that like a fruit sweetener = some kind of sugar?)

they say 4 months but all depends on ur child just ask ur doctor he/she will tell u my daughter its rice cereal and she is only 3 months. the doctor told me i could so it will help her keep her milk down even though she hates the cereal :)

Hey Sarah maybe you can try the enfamil A.R. I dnt kno if similac makes one but im sure they do that is if you arent nursing. The A.R = added rice starch already in the formula ask your pedi about it since your DD doesnt like the cereal. Also you may try the brown rice cereal instead of the white rice if you are nursing & mixing that way. WELL WISHES TO YOU & YOURS

My baby just turned 4 months old and I just started her on it...small amounts like a tablespoon at a time. My doctor told me at 4 months you can start. She seems to like it!

I forgot to mention that I put his cereal and fruit in his bottle. He eats it all day not just morning and nighttime. He weighs 14pds so he needed more than just formula. He was 8pd 9 oz when he was born and very colicky now he is doing much better with the food!

I just started my son on cereal. It depends on how much your baby is eating. A family member pediatrician recommends it if your child eats over 32 oz a day. My son eats 42. He said twice a day 9 am and 6 pm start with 2 tablespoons and increase a tablespoon a day until you reach your child's limit. My son eats a whole bowl!

I know your supposed to start with a tablespoon but how often do you go up in the amount and how much do you go up to? My son eats about 2 tablespoons at night. Do I give him more than that? And when should I start giving it to him in the morning too?

you go up when the current amount is not holding him anymore. & increase by 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach an amount that sustains him again. cereal in the morning is usually not needed until they are older unless you are trying to do something special like space out he feedings. WELL WISHES TO YOU & YOURS

I've been giving my son a little rice cereal in his bottle since he was 6 weeks. He started sleeping for longer stretches of time.

My daughter has a stomach disease that makes it difficult to keep her formula down. No matter what formula and how much i give her at a feeding she was still throwing up almost all of it. She was started on a mixture of formula and cereal at six weeks. Slowly but surely she has stopped spitting up all her food, and has started gaining weight! After only a few weeks of doing the mixture she gained three pounds. We do four ounces of water, two scoops of formula, and and for every ounce u do a spoon full of cereal!! :)
