When is a baby supposed to roll?

my son fiirst rolled over in his sleep, then woke up mad and crying. he now can roll but would rather jump in his jumper. When your daughter decides that rolling will get her what she wants she'll do it.

my son zac has been rolling over since he was 12 weeks old. he is now 6 months on the 14th and he is almost crawling he gets on his knees and rocks so not long now....

my baby is same either..and she is going to be 6 month old this month..she rolls on her side but cant roll over ..

My daughter has been rolling since a little bit over 4 months, in between 4 and 4.5 months. If you are really worried about it talk to your doctor. But in my opinion every baby does EVERYTHING on their own time. They don't care about when they are supposed to do it, they just do it when they feel like it. If she's done it both ways one time each then don't worry about it. She'll get it eventually. Try praising her when she gets onto her side. Or push her the rest of the way yourself and then praise her so she will understand it's something that makes you happy. It will make her more inclined to try to do it on her own. Babies love making mommy and daddy happy, and they love getting attention when they do something. I hope this helps :)

my lil boy is 6 mnth on 22nd and hasnt rolled over yet he nearly did but hasnt. he sleeps on his front hates it on his bk.

My little one is doing the same thing and he's 5 monthes . He rolls on to his side and then back again. He's right now trying to sit up unassissted. He just has no interest in rolling over.

My Vesper is 5 months and already climbing on my couch. She rolled at 3 months and started scooting/crawl at around 4 months. I am still unsure how she became so strong at such an early age compare to my little boy. I carry her a lot in my baby sling.

My little boy is the same. He too is 5 months old. He gets his head really far back but cant quite figure it out.I suppose they all do things at different stages. I wouldnt worry to much. He has never rolled from his belly to back. I saw some one write about with no clothes on they did it. I may just give that ago. x

This has been so helpful! My daughter is 6 months today and she started sitting up all by herself without pillows for support this week, so maybe that was where her concentration has been. It is so amazing how different my three are, even though I am pretty sure I am doing the same things :)

My daughter about 5 months and now she does it all the time now some times it looks like she wants to start crawling I dont know if its to early shes not sitting up that good yet she still falls I dont think she knows how to catch her self before she falls but dont worry all babies learn diffrent times

my son is 6 months and has been sitting without assistance since he was 5 months - but doesn't roll other than just on his side when he sees something that he wants to grab.

But then again, my oldest son didn't roll or crawl before he was 7-8 months... he was more interested in climbing up and standing or walking around the room hilding on to the furniture (he did that at 7 months and had been pulling himself up from sitting to standing when he was 6 months!)

I think the focus is on something else so they don't try to do other things - in that case it's rolling... :)

i found that if i put toys out of reach but in arms lenght then both my boys rolled to try and get them i used to leave a big quilt on the floor for them (still do)and now my 5 month old is rolling away

my daughter is goin to be 6 months feb 13 and she rolled belly to back at 3 months and back to belly at 4 months..now she rolls all oer the place i lay her in the middle of the floor and she usually rolls all the way across the room and back...she is doing great she actually is attempting to crawl but just managaes to scoot backwards and sits by her self for at least 5 min the just falls over haha. i cant lay her on her back without her rolling over now...but every baby is different. she will do it when she wants. and i think it is between 4-5 months maybe try sticking a toy above her so she gets the hang of rolling over to try and grab her toy.

Hey, my little girl is the same. She rolled a few times when she was between 3-4months then lost all interest in rolling. She's 5 1/2 months now and is starting to roll over more often, or whenever she feels like it. Every baby is different i guess :)

My daughter is not rolling over yet either. She rolls to her side all the time and has made it to her tummy a few times. My friends daughter is two months older than mine and it took her forever to roll. Another thing I have heard is that some babies go from sitting to walking with out ever crawling. And tummy time is really about crawling.

Hey, My son was not intrested in rolling at all at first and then i got on the ground wit him, and started placing toys for him to reach after only if he rolled over. so i would help him along, Now he wont stop back to belly and just started belly to back! your daughter will get it.. Every child has there own pace.

Hey ladies, here's a trick...babies have innate "righting reactions" that make them want to line up their eyes with level ground, and you can use this to encourage them to roll.



Lay baby down on her back and then you lay down on your tummy above her head and just off to one side (with your head a few inches away from hers). Get her attention so that she tilts her head back and to the side to look up at you. She will see you in an orientation that she recognizes as foreign (upside down), and will automatically try to re-orient herself to "turn you right-side up". When she begins to roll onto her side, grab her hand so she can use it to pull herself over onto her tummy.



I am a pediatric physical therapist, and I use this all the time with my kids in therapy sessions. Most babies will lead with their heads when they begin rolling, so this is a perfect way to encourage that. Good luck!

Mine is 6 months and she still could care less. I have talked to other moms that say their babies didn't do it until 7 or 8 months. I am trying not to panic. But it is driving me crazy. Both of my other girls did it at 4 months. I think she just likes to hang out.

My son won't roll over either. He likes to sleep on his stomach for naps and his side at night. He can get on his side but he can't flip over at all. He really isn't a big fan of tummy time except for when he is napping. My older son flipped over early, like 3 months. The baby will be 6 months old this week, should I worry?

my son is 5 months and just rolled from back to tummy for the first time today he only did it once though, after that he would go to his side with his head tillted up. He shows no interest in rolling from tummy to back i think he'll be sitting up on his own before he does that lol

Parker Paige is 5 months and she rolled over tummy to back a few months ago and back to tummy a month ago. However, she doesn't do it very often, so I sort of had the same concern the poster did. I think we need to encourage them to do more tummy time to build up the strength in the chest, but that's easier said than done, because Parker Paige hates being on her tummy!!!

my son is 5 months and has just started to roll over from his back to his tummy. He started sitting up before he started to roll but then one day we were playing with him and he swung his legs over and rolled, since then he loves to roll. My husband and I encouraged him to roll a little everyday. Maybe if you try putting a blanket on the floor get one toy and place it just out of reach then help your little one roll over, get really excited when you roll her over so they know that's what you want them to do. After about 2 days of doing this with my son he started doing it himself. Good luck :)

My daughter, Caitlyn, hasn't rolled over yet. She rolls onto her side and then back to her back. She's more interested in sitting up then rolling! She'll get there one day. All babies are different.

my baby is 5 months and she does back to belly, and pivets around 90* and doe sthe same thing, just give them more laying on the ground time, maybe infront of nick jr. i cant give her toys to play with, she gets mad and throws a crazy fit and limits her time on the ground. but she's a fast learner on everything else, like holding bottle and clapping her feet together and reaching her mouth with them, and babbling and copying, sometimes theres just certain things they need to have more time on.

My daughter rolled for the 1st time when she was 3 months old. Now she is 5 months and rolls over and over. All babies are different though and I wouldnt worry about it!

Someone told me that because our kids are sleeping on their backs, they are rolling over much later that they used to. Rolling from tummy to back is the easier way but our kids don't spend as much time on their tummys to practice. In fact, I try to put my little guy on his tummy at least twice a day but he HATES it and usually only lasts a few minutes.

my son is 5 months and he was the same till a couple of weeks ago when a friend gave me a tip... put a toy she likes just out of her reach and if she wants it bad enough she will roll to get it. worked with my boy. good luck ♥

My daughter will be 5 months on the 19th, she can roll from back to tummy, but unless there are toys all around her, she hates being on her tummy. Sometimes putting a small soft ball or folded up blanket under her chest helps with keeping her happy on her tummy. When I put her in a sitting position she stays if her bum is secure, like in a bumbo, but will only pull herself up from a reclining position, against my legs on my tummy or in her rocker.
She hated tummy time until I started putting her on my chest and talking and cooing to her alot while she was there, also I do it when her tummy is not full. She has/had a misshapen head from a large hematoma(sp) and the doc's said lots of tummy time to help with that.

my son can only roll from his tummy to his back, and is not even showing any interest in rolling from his back to belly, he will be 5 months on jan 28th. but he is able to sit on his own basically.

My son just turned 5 months on Monday and he rolled onto his tummy for the first time on Sunday. Still can't roll back from tummy to back and gets mad once he's on his tummy and can't switch back..lol I read in one of my books that babies are supposed to roll at 4 months, and I was all worried because he wasn't and then on Sunday I looked down at him and there he was on his tummy. I'm sick of reading books...they just have to do things when they're ready in their own time! I really enjoy advice from other moms over reading books because it helps me to realize there are other people who are in the same boat as me!

my daughter started at about 2 1/2 close to 3months when she rolled. When she first rolled it was not a constant thing. About three days after she rolled was when she finally started to continue rolling over.

Mine is doing the exact same thing.. He gets his head turned pretty far and hasn't figured out how to get his leg over yet.. I think he will be sitting up without assistance before he's got rolling over down.. :). Wouldn't worry to much about it.
