My daughter will officially be 4 months old in a couple days and I had gotten her to eating ever two hours and once or twice a week she would go thru a day of eating only every hour. now it is all the time and has been this way for over a week. I am starting to go insane. She wont take formula, I have tried three different kinds to see if the change in taste will help and she only takes two sucks and then spits it all out. I do know that I never get the let down feeling anymore, and my breasts dont get nearly as full as they used to. I know I am producing milk and she gets it in her because I squeeze some out and fire it across the room. I also cant seem to pump anymore I never get more than a couple ml's. I have tried every couple days to see and nothing. The only time I got almost an oz was when I fed her and pumped at the same time but she would kick the pump away from my other breast. I am worried if she is not getting enough, but her weight is 55% for her age group so I know she is gaining, or she just metabloizes it really fast. Her father has an extremely high metabolism and had a lot of eating problems when he was an infant ( but he was the sickly twin) Just wondering who else has these issues and if they found a solution. My breast feeding clinic wont reopen for another two weeks becuase of the H1N1 vaccinations, so I am patiently waiting for it to open.

If you are wanting to stop breast feeding a way to wean her on to formula is to start with 1/4 formula and 3/4 breast milk in the same bottle for a few days and then increase fron there 1/2 and 1/2, then 3/4 formula and 1/4 breast milk and so on. Or I know this sounds awful but give her the formula if she doesn't drink don't breastfeed her, when she is hungry enough she will drink it. Remember a baby will never go hungry.

It is normal for babies to go through what your little ones is doing, My little girl will have a period every day where she will want to feed every hour.
If you are worried about her getting enough, the best way to tell is by the wet nappies. If she has 5 or more wet nappies, then she is getting enough breastmilk from you.
If you want to increase your supply, then express inbetween feeds, (you can get a let down every 20 minutes. ) The more you feed and express the bigger your supply will get, however this is time consuming and takes about 3 days before you start to notice any difference and by pumping i mean pumping every 2 hours minimum during the day, and you have to express every day. Its a supply and demand system. Remember to grab that bottle of water when you start feeding... Because she is feeding so often your breast arent actually getting really full because your girl is draining it as its "produced" so to say.
With expressing and feeding at the same time, what i so with my daughter is that she is sitting on my leg, in a more up right position, so that way i have more room for the pump, the other thing that you could do is wrap her up so she cant kick the pump away whilst your feeding. Your daughter is like the ultimate pump, she will always get way more out of you than a pump will. So dont look at the quantity of the expressed milk..
I hope that helps,

THere can be more information found on the australian breastfeeding association, this is a very reliable and useful website in regards to breastfeeding (and no matter where you are in the world.. boobs are boobs, and milk is milk! just the people are different... ) www.breastfeeding.asn.au

My baby feed like that around the same age - he is nearly 5 months now. Apparently 4 months is the age where they are really begining to develop so feed alot more - like a growth spurt really. It didnt last long for us though - so hopefully wont last long for you. Lots of mums in my antenatal group had the same thing. As for your milk, you can build up your supply by taking herbs - fenugreek and blessed thistle, and eating lots of protein. Good luck :-)
