Hi all,

I have a 7 week old son who seems to have broken out in acne. Was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to clear it up. I guess it's not wise to use any harsh products on baby's skin,so is there anything else i could use that would help get rid of it? Or just keep washing it with water, which i have read in one of my books.

Thanks Mary.

My little girl would get little pimples on her face and body due to the hormones, and all that was required was to moisturize daily. If the acne looks like some sort of rash around and in between the brow line, eyelids, around the ears or on the scalp, and could also contain a yellow crust then it may be cradle cap which is also caused by hormones. If it is cradle cap then the best treatment is to put vaseline on the area. If it is more a rash over his body then it may be a heat rash in which case you can treat with Curash powder, however, ensure you moisturise before putting this on as it tends to dry out baby's skin. Try not to use Johnson and Johnson products as they contain perfume which tends to irritate and dry out baby's sensitive skin. I use the Cetaphil moisturiser and cleanser and the Mustela Shampoo and have not had any further problems. Good luck.

Hi Liz,

Well Max's baby acne/heat rash seems to have pretty much cleared up. It's still slightly red. But we ended up also using aloe vera on his face. We have aloe plants, just took a cutting from the plant, and put the gel straight on his face. Works a treat. We use it for burns too, awesome stuff. Yeah i'm not sure about vaseline. We did also use sorbelene cream tho. I just wish he would stop scratching his face, leaves lovely big red marks. No matter how much you cut his nails,he still manages to scratch himself.

Yeah we were told the same, time and water will do the trick! I've heard of people putting vaseline on it but that sounds strange to me!!

It's probably a combination of heat rash-hormones-baby acne, which is pretty common. I've got no advice on how to clear it up, I was told it would go away 'with time' and it did. Just try to keep him cool.

Peace.
