I have a five year old and a two year old. From past experience its much easier to do this at the beginning of spring, whenthe weather is warmer, you have less clothes to wash. I will be training my two year old then, he will be 2.5 by then. If your son is just two, its probably a little early as you have to wait a bit longer for boys than girls. You can buy the steps to the toilet wich I found much better than a potty. You put a ping pong ball into the toilet and turn it into a game and get them to hit the ball. This also teaches them to aim which we all know boys can need help with no matter what age ;o) he might not want to stand up straight away but if your partner leaves the door open and your son can see what daddy does he will try to copy him...If he is sitting down, read to him or sing songs, make it a fun place to be. It will be hard with a 6 month old in tow but you could sit just outside the toilet with the baby and sing away...good luck with it. Don't push him, he will do it in his own time. My sister works in day care and I am of the same opinion that pull ups aren't the answer, it happens quicker if you just don't use a nappy, they realise what is happening sooner. Also, don't use undies, just shorts, it too hard for them to be able to pull them down. Introduce them once they are trained. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Emma,

I know this is going to sound stupid but being only 2 is he ready? Perhaps If you wait a few more months he might be more interested. you can try having a potty out in your lounge, pull up are good eventually they relise that being wet feels yuk. dont stress if your friends kids where or are toilet training now or have been every kids if different and believe me you will know when he is ready. and wait untill its convenient for you having a six month old is straining enough with out training as well. but the key is not to push the child or they will be scared of the noise or splash.
