I had wanted to change her around, but have decided to wait much longer. For one reason she is tiny. She is 7 months next week & still not even 6kg. The other reason is it is much more comfortable this was if she falls asleep. She is our 1st child, so at this stage she doesn't know any different. She has showed no signs of being fed up with rear facing. I was just concerned as she is quite long & her legs are touching the back seat. Thanks for your thoughts Ladies..... :)

According to the ambos (in Qld), you keep the seat facing the rear until they're 8 to 10 kilos (depends on the car seat) It is actually safer facing the rear.

The recommendation in the US is now about 16 months or older. They want them to be a minimum of 20 lbs and never before 1 as their necks aren't strong enough.

Our daughter was and still is really tiny and we turned her around somewhere between 18 mths and 2 mostly because she wanted to watch her brothers DVD and we didn't have a sun shade on our rear facing seat.

There are some great convertible seats that will take bub up to 26kg

It is safer for you child to rearward face until they are 12kg.  Here's a guideline for you.......

Baby Capsules:   Birth - 9kg

Convertable Carseat Rearward Facing:   Birth - 12kg

Convertable Carseat Forward Facing:   12kg - 18kg

Non Convertable Carseat:   9kg - 18kg

Booster Seat:   14kg - 26kg

Harness:   14kg - 32kg (can be used while child is in booster, and then afterwards)

Hope this helps a bit.

Go by weight not age!
In Australia the law has changed to 12kg rear facing care seat. or untill your child is to long for the seat
If you have trouble find a formular look at online chemist websites

Hi there. Did you know in the USA they are rear facing till 12mths ? I kept mine this way until they physically didnt fit (feet/legs scrunched up because of seat) So this was about 9mths for mine. But also they were in a capsule, not a rear facing carseat, so they grow out much quicker.

HI, My son's 5 months & weighs just under 9kg & i still haven't turned his car seat around everything i've read says to put off turning him around for as long as you can its supposed to be better if he's facing backwards if i was to have a car accident. the only time it really annoys me is when he's asleep it wakes him to put him in & out of the car but he doesn't seem to mind.... ave you got a mega save chemist near you? im pretty sure they have the Enfalac Step 1 Formula
