Central Market has music Friday, Saturday and Sunday night (6-9pm), also during the day on Sunday. They also have a playground. We go to the one on Lamar between 38th and 45th.

I'm always wondering the same thing! It's difficult being the social planner of the family. haha.. A friend of mine just found a website that has a calendar of free events in Austin for families. Down to Lowe's / Home Depot kids building workshops. Free pools, skating parks, festivals (there's one tomorrow at the Dell Children's Hospital)..etc. So it's pretty neat. So far I've only browsed their calendar but it looks like it offers more information on other activities.
