Hi all, just wanted to mention that I found an amazing range of gluten-free foods that I think are also all dairy-free (you would have to double check packaging) in the freezer section of my local Coles Supermarket. They have sausage rolls, vegie rolls, pizza rolls, breads, apple pies, lamingtons. My son tried the lamingtons tonight and loved them, I also had a taste and they taste like normal lamingtons, very yummy. I also saw gf, dairy-free pastry sheets that I think were made by Pastry Pantry. Check out the site www.Patties.com.au

Joanna, thats great to hear about your visit, I know exactly what you are talking about with the feeling of finding someone who knows what they are talking about etc. I put up a discussion on here about the results from my son's tests (hair test and stool test) but basically it showed high levels of toxins in his body, 3 parasites including worms in his stomach & yeast, and it showed high levels of gluten which indicates he has trouble digesting it. I was amazed that so much is going on in my son's body, and to think if it weren't for DAN! Drs all this would go undiagnosed and untreated. I have mentioned my Son's terrible diarrhoea to Drs and Paeds and none of them were concerned or only did a stool test which showed up nothing. If their test showed up nothing I dont know what they were looking for because they managed to miss all those parasites and yeast, its unbelieveable. The only thing that struck me as strange with your post was that my DAN! Dr is dealing with my Son's digestive issues before we can even think about chelation and we have put off B12 til later as it seems like less of a priority compared to his digestive issues.

First of all, I'm new to community but from what I've read I'm going to be happy to be part of the community and look forward to chatting with you all. I'm also new to the Gluten/Casein Free Diet as I have a 16 year old son who is Autistic. I've done a lot of researching, pricing, etc. over the last year. I found a wonderful Gluten Free Cookbook in Barnes and Noble recently and I wanted to share this with everyone as it has more than 200 Gluten Free recipes that can also be turned into Casein Free Recipes. The name of the book is "Gluten-Free Quick and Easy" by Carol Fenster. It's also a great starter book because it gives you ingrediants that you would normally use and the Gluten/Casein alternatives. She's devoted an entire section of her book for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Since this conversation is devoted to grocery stores where there are quite a few things that are avaiable in some grocery stores I made an interesting discovery as well. A LOT of the Gluten Free things I've found for my pantry has come from a health foods store and more resonablly priced than purchasing online. The supervisor at the health foods store where I live informed me that they are about to quadruple the amount of Gluten Free Foods that they carry due to demand but they had everything from pancake mixes to cake mixes to flours to cereals to pastas to frozen foods!!! It was wonderful because their price was about $5.00 per item after tax for the exact same product that places online are charging $20.00 per item plus shipping and handling. I hope that this information helps and I will be looking forward to speaking with all soon on other topics.

Thanks Stacey,

We just had our appt with a DAN! Dr. yesterday. It was amazing, she was so knowledgable and helpful. I've removed casein from my son's diet for past few days and only noticeable thing we've had so far is massive diapers of "toxic waste". We were going to start the GF next week but our DAN! advised doing one thing at a time and she wants to start with the B12 shots. I'm very excited about that because we've seen some results already with RevitaPops so I hope that the injections will take that up a notch. We'll do that for 5 weeks and then add in the GF diet for 3 months and then possibly go for chelation if needed (although this is unlikely, she says it's not the most used treatment and has very varied results). I can't tell you how nice it was to have someone who knew so much, had legitimate biological explanations for things (very important for my husband to get this, he's totally on board!) and to be given a clear gameplan.

Let me know how your DAN! visit goes, I hope you have a similar experience!

Hi Joanna, We have seen some good results in our Son, nothing dramatic like some people report (speech doubling in just a week etc) but slow and steady, but even the little things such as decreased stimming, he actually responds when you call him most of the time, better concentration, better eye contact etc. He is also starting to say words, they are still quite unclear and he'll often only say it when we say it but he is really trying which he wouldnt even do before. As I said in another post, I make a lot of things from scratch, I can not get all the fancy flours etc where I live so I just bought the Orgran or white wings brands of gfcfsf plain flour and self raising flours and substitute them in place of normal plain or sr flour in recipes and I have gotten good results this way, also much easier and cheaper. I also use rice crumbs in place of breadcrumbs, I tried nuggets with a batter, but find it easier to crumb them using gfcfsf plain flour, egg, then ricecrumbs, and I prefer crumbed chicken. I have a waffle maker, I make gfcfsf version just by substituting ingredients and they turn out well, they do not stick to the iron. I have made cupcakes that have turned out quite nice, muffins should work out well too, only thing I have noticed with gfcfsf baking is that when making cakes you generally have to bake it for less time, they turn out too rubbery and tough on the outside otherwise. We tried pizza, didnt like it, I think the way to go is to use a waffle as the pizza base and just dress it with tomato paste, ham, and pineapple or whatever you like, I dont use cheese, they still taste ok. I dont have any experience with the vitamins etc yet, am waiting to see a Dan! Dr in Feb.

Hi Stacy,

I see you started your son on the diet last September... have you seen good results? I'm starting my son it this week. Starting with CF first, GF next week. Am trying to replicate his favorites: chicken nuggets, waffles, muffins and pizza. Do you have suggestions on good brands for this things or good recipes? I'm leaning toward pre-made options rather than full recipes because you have to buy so many ingredients to recreate a "normal" version.

For waffles, they always stick to the iron (although MyCravings brand has great taste), is this typical from GF waffle batters?

I'm also giving my son Super Nu-Thera vitamins with good results- a lot of good energy and good temperament from these. As well as RevitaPops for B12 lollipops- instant good mood!

Any other suggestions?
