I take my son very frequently to the toilet and am very alert for signs like him hurting me, or bumping into me to go to the bathroom. He has absolutely no problem any more with making a pee-pee, but wants to wear a nappy when doing a number 2. What can I do to help him overcome his fear of poohing in the toilet?

Hallo everybody!

Happy to say that my boy has been off the nappy for more than 9 months now! Yay!

What has helped? Well, I started watching him with a hawk eye. Every time it looked as if he was aiming to make a number two, I would reap him up from where he was, run to the toilet with him, quickly get rid of the nappy, or under pants and sit him down on the loo. Voila!

He still won't go to the toilet by himself, but at least now I know what to look out for...

Hopefully one day he'll do everything on his own, but for now, I'll try and keep on watching him... it's cheaper than buying bags and bags of nappies and off course, less explaining to other people.

I don't know if it will help, but with my daughter we would talk to her every step of the way and when it came time for her to number 2 we would sit her on the potty in her diaper and continue to have the same conversation with her about using the toilet. After about 3 wks she would sit on the toilet and do it with her diaper on and it took another 3 months until we could start taking the diaper off, she was 4 then 7 now and she only has accidents away from home now.

My son will be 6 in June and I took him to the DR because of him not pooping in the toilet. He actually has a medical problem and I had to change his diet and put him on fiber and constantly remind him to go. But he hasnt pooped in his pants more than 2 times in 2 weeks now.

We've been working on potty training for a couple of years now...He can urinate but bowel movements are not happening. We have tried everything from a portable DVD player in the bathroom, toys, rewards, getting to talk on the phone, etc and we havent had any success. We spent all summer having him run naked and having him work on it and all we accomplished we me having to clean my carpets once a week and him being stressed out. We spoke to our psychiatrist about it and she told us to back off a little as we were causing him way too much stress. Im hopeful, however, that we can work on this again over the summer and by 7 he will be fully potty trained :)

I was very successful with training my son to use the potty chair for bowel movements by using M&M's. If you're not into sugar, try some other tiny snack that your son loves. It didn't take that long, so it's not like I was giving him tons of sugar for a long period of time! If I was re-doing this today, I probably would use goldfish crackers. my son is the same way. he has been peeing in the toilet for almost a year, but still wont poo in it. he needs/wants a diaper. and he still wears a diaper at night also. my son will be 6 next week. i try and do the training in the summer, so it doesnt effect school. thats when we did the potty training for peeing. so this summer we are going to try and get him pooing in the toilet..just dont know how im going to do it yet..

I think it really depends on his age. It ton of patienc e to get Van to final poo in the potty. he has seriously been peeing in it for about a year.I would dump the poo from the diaper to the potty and let him flush ( he loved to flush). After a bit we would just sit and wait for 15 minutes at a time. Once we got the timing right (Gross Alert) I would kneel in front of the potty and hold him until he was done. After a few of those he let me just sit with him. Soon he was going on his own.
