My daughter is 12 and we are struggling with everything. She has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder since 6 and now we have the diagnosis of Asberger's . She doesnt rest at night. She is a stress eater. Lays in bed with head under the covers. Having a hard time getting her to go to school. She is so smart and I dont know what to do. I feel at a loss all the time. Can someone give me some advice on books to read, things to do.

I cant believe all the cases of bi-polar disorder in children. I would think that it must be something in the food or water
I am an adult with bipolar disorder and the more I look into why I think it has to do with a lack of an amino acid that is naturally occuring in stuff like kale. We dont tend to feed things to our children that they dont like so most of us dont think about feeding our children kale and i didnt even hear of kale until i was in my 30s but seriously read label look at whats in your food

I know a lot of moms who have had great results using a nutritional supplement.

I got to hear from a very successful pediatrician- Ivy Fischer in California who not only uses Reliv for herself (great story with her diabetes, cholesterol, asthma!!!! ) she is sharing Reliv with everyone she loves and cares about. As a pediatrician she specializes with autism and has helped many children with that and a lot of other things. More and more medical professionals are seeing and sharing the Reliv difference!!! Reliv does not claim to cure, just help everyone live a better quality of life.

Until Monday (Dec. 14) morning you can call in and can catch the replay of this call!!!!! Please pass this on too!

I also have stories on Asperger's Syndrome.

Please let me know if I can help!

She is diagnosed, but is she on any meds? Is she cycling rapidly, or does she have long periods of depressive behaviours, followed by mania?

If you haven't had her assessed by a developmental pediatrician/ or a pediatric psychiatrist, you need to do this ASAP. With puberty, her bi-polar disorder can take a huge turn and it must be carefully watched.

A double diagnosis is so hard to deal with because you will have conflicting advice from the two different camps. My father was bi-polar and he took lithium for the last thirty years of his life. It made a huge difference in his life. My son has autism, but takes no meds.

I read Patty Duke Astin's book, Call Me Anna many years ago...at the time there was not a lot out there on bi-polar (or manic depression as it used to be called)...

Seek medical help for your child...and keep seeking until you find that one doctor who will be the one to make a difference....he/she is out there!

Good Luck,

Sheila

My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, he is now 15 and homeschooled. He is doing better than he ever did at school. He is also much happier. He plays a lot of computer games or playstation games. Have you tried getting her interested in computer? My son is also very bright but has a very narrow field of interest. Hope this helps.
