Anyone have any experience with Intuniv?

My son is currently on Concerta we use 54mgs and then a second dose 18 mg at the same time. He seems to do well with it and hasn't had any side effects to be concerned with except when it wears off around 9 pm then he eats me out of house an home.

@ Kim, It may be worth your time to find out what your insurance company's proceedure is on asking for an exception to covering the medication. You will have to be persistant, but with documentation from your son's physician, you may be able to get the medication covered.

My son is on Risperdone 1mg, Ritalin 50mg / per day, and Clonidine at bedtime .Does anyone know if Intuniv is a time release medication ? We have an app. coming up next month and I really need to try something else for his anger,outbursts, banging, and impulsive behavoir. He has Autistic Spectrum Disorder / Severe ADD. He's 13 , 5'1 and 125lbs, I need to get him under control ! Time release does'nt work with him at all and we've tried every med out there ! Focalin is the best but the insurance company won't pay for it anymore, 2 steps forward, 4 steps back !

My son is diagnosed with Ashbergers and mild CP. He takes 30 mg of vyvanse and is on his second week of intuniv 2mg now. I am really hoping its helps with his impulsiveness and hyperactivity. We had tried other medications but just when they work he builds up a tolerance to them. He is 7 and a whole 46 lbs and I am finding it so hard to keep up with him. I really hope the intuniv helps.

We use Intuniv with good results but we also give him Focalin at a small dose with it and it works wonders

When the Intuniv stopped working, we took about 6 weeks off from medication but we are starting Metadate CR this week and hoping for the best.

We didn't have much success with Intuniv, Clonadine, Tenex, but we have had success with the stimulant meds, so maybe it will work for you. Good luck. Finding the right med(s) is certainly a challenge.

My 7 year old was on Intuniv for about 6 months for impulsivity issues. It was like someone flipped a switch, we saw immediate results and his teachers said he was like a different child - able to be still and concentrate. It was wonderful while it worked but after a while he built up a tolerance and it was like someone flipped the switch back to off.

My son has been on Intuniv for close to a year. It took a while to ramp up to the 2mg because he was getting so tired. He actually took 1mg and then 2mg every other day for about 5 weeks, which really helped the transition. We're considering going to 3mg - the doctor said that it was a reasonable dose at 70 lbs. I think that it's helped the aggression and impulsivity, but he is also taking Seroquel XR. Hope this helps!

my son has been taking intuniv - 2mg for about a year and i'm not sure it's working anymore ... he's 9 1/2 and about 100 lbs; can anyone else comment on how it's doing for your kids and what dose you are on?

We just started my daughter with Aspergers on Intuniv about a week ago. We are hoping it will help with impulsive behavior, mood outbursts, and arguing with adults. Too early to tell yet but I am hopeful that maybe we can see at least a little improvement. We have used concerta and adderall in the past for adhd symptoms but not much luck. Hoping a non-stimulant medication will work better.

She also takes Seroquel XR for halucinations and clonidine for mood and sleep....otherwise she doesn't sleep.

Good luck! Doesn't seem to be much info out there yet...Intuniv is pretty new on the market.

My son's psychiatrist gave us the starter pack today. My son has aspergers and already takes Ritalin for his ADHD symptoms, but the hope is that the Intuniv will help with his irritability. I'm not sure yet if I will give it to him or not-- just doing a little research at this point on Intuniv side effects and reviews.

My son also has ADHD/AS/Anxiety. My ped just gave us the started kit for this 1mg/2mg/3mg, but I think I might wait to start it on spring break or maybe even in the summer since lethargy is such a pronounced Intuniv side effect. He seemed to think the nonstimulant would be a good thing for him, especially with anxiety. Concerta has been good to us for 5 yrs, but the higher dose, 54mg will make the anxiety worse, we think. He's 11 and a wonderful boy, but such a target for bullying/harrassment. He tries SO HARD to fit in, but so far its slow going.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I think it will be worth a try. The therapy is also key, which I'm sure you are doing. We're hoping to get started in the next couple of weeks, he's actually pretty open to it!!

I'll post when we try it-cross your fingers for us!

My son 9 years has Aspergers and we JUST started Intuniv. He has trouble with focus especially later in the day at school and is a "seeker" as well...(Many non food items in the mouth...constant reminding... and he makes noises, humming and scripting to himself almost all day.

I am not a fan of meds, but the Developmental Pediatrician seems hopeful....

He says other "non stimulant" choices out there (clonidine) have helped other kids like my son. I Don't want to "change" who HE is...but it has got to be difficult and exhausting for him to be corrected and redirected almost constantly throughout the day...I hear all the time how happy and pleasant he is... but with the constant corrections and redirections all day at school and then at home...(I can see already he gets frustrated)...if it continues....

I think his BEAUTIFUL spirit will change, if he is not capable of behavior that is expected of him...And he is Pushed and Pushed to act like everyone else.....????

His teacher said today he is not like the other kids....DUH...none of them in his REGULAR classroom have ASPERGERS !!!!
