Hey everyone! I have a 3 year old son with Autism, and along with some family members I'm putting on a big fundraiser for Autism Speaks at the end of August. I'm looking for your favorite inspirational autism quotes, something that touched you, gave you hope, made you cry, anything at all. I'm using these quotes for autism as centerpieces for the tables. Thanks
Amber

I have ALOT of them....

"MY CHILD HAS AUTISM- Questions Are Appreciated Parenting Advice Is Not!"

"AUTISM IS NOT A TRAGEDY. IGNORANCE IS THE TRAGEDY."

"Parenting advice is not appreciated unless you too have a child with AUTISM"

"People with AUTISM.... do not lie, do not judge, do not play mind games. Maybe we can learn something from them."

"MY CHILD WITH AUTISM- PRICELESS"

"Hey, keep staring at me and you just might cure my Autism. Then we can work on YOUR social skills."

"I'm just like everybody else... only different."

"Borderline artistic."

"I'm not ignoring you... I have Autism."

"I'm Not A Brat! I'm Autistic!"

"God made me special."

"Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I remember. Involve me, and I LEARN!"

"AUTISM Means I Won't Lead An Ordinary Life.... I Can Lead An Extraordinary Life!"

"Autistic today. Genius tomorrow."

"I'm not rude, bad, hyper, or shy. I'm AUTISTIC! What's your excuse?"

"Those without a disability are often times more disabled than those with a disability."

"LOOK BEYOND THE AUTISM AND YOU WILL SEE SOMEONE VERY SPECIAL."

"Just because I can't speak doesn't mean I have nothing to say!"

Always
Unique
Totally
Intelligent
Sometimes
Mysterious

I got these from a website called CafePress.com. I purchased some of their products from there. If you put "autism" in their search engine, countless things will come up. Good luck!!! Any one with an autistic or special needs child are more than welcome to use and share (there aren't my sayings, but very inspirational and meaningful to me)....

Hi Amber,

Great idea.

Some of my favorite autism quotes:
My son has autism, but autism doesn't have him.

Autism Rocks!
(and rolls and spins and flaps and loves and laughs)

The path I travel is lit by those who came before me, and it will shine brighter for those who follow me.

See my potential.

Have a wonderful fundraiser!

"I may not be where I intented to go, but I am exactly where I'm meant to be". My favorite quote. I have it on my fridge and I read it everyday. It helps we when I'm having a rough day. Something else that I read when my son was in the NICU..."Nobody said it would be easy, But it will be worth it". These mean a lot to me...

You are so right, it is about the small things. They mean so much. It made me think about a story I read about the moment a child with autism, had a breakthrough moment. It gives me hope my child will experience that if only briefly. http://www.projecthopesc.org/secret-mess... so glad I found your site!

If autism means, don't pretend, be a little shy with strangers, dance, laugh and show yourself they way you are... Then yes I am autistic!! So why are you trying to change me?

There's also this one:
‘Who do you think made the first stone spear?” asks Temple Grandin. “That wasn’t the yakkity yaks sitting around the campfire. It was some Aspberger sitting in the back of a cave figuring out how to chip rocks into spearheads. Without some autistic traits you wouldn’t even have a recording device to record this conversation on.”

My son who is 5 says "Autism is a good thing" I know it is corny, but I love it. He also likes to make lists about himself and autism is always on there, with everything else about him, like his love of chocolate milk- it is just an inherent part of who he is to him. I hope that attitude continues with him through his life.

I live in a small town in the South (not by choice, we want to move!) and this quote I read a long time ago means alot to me with the stigma my son gets. "If you've met A child with autism, you've met A child with autism." Each and every one of them is so wonderfully different : ).

I once read a story where a father hired several therapists to help his autistic son and a neighbor looked at the father and said. "Your child does not need therapists, he needs to play with other children". He said "I don't think you understand mam, my son does not know how to play. He is stuck in his own little world.".She became speechless.

This story made me cry.

My son, who is 4 1/2, was playing near another kid at the park a few weeks ago. The kid walked up to him and asked "Why do you talk so funny?" My son turned to him and said, "I have autism, but it's okay because I'm secretly a rockstar!" Then he carried on acting out the entire wall-e movie. Seriously, one of the proudest moments of my life.

I know this doesn't work for all people/children with Autism but for those that don't speak I think it is a great saying! "Not being able to speak... Is not the same as not having anything to say." Isn't that awesome and how true!

These aren't quotes..just advice given to me by our developmental pediatrician. "Your child is the same person he/she was before the diagnosis. The diagnosis does not change the child you love". And last..this one I really took to heart. The doctor could tell that all I did was worry. She said "you need to quit worrying so much about your child and enjoy your child because if you don't, you will regret it later". After that, I made sure my child did everything other kids did. I started having fun with him instead of just sitting, watching and worrying about him.

hi there this isint exactly a quote but you might be interested! My 15 year old son was diadnosed with Aspergers when he was 7 and you know how it is when Autisim is discussed and its always the things they do or dont do or repeatedly do or what can be expected,he looked me in the eye the other day when I was helpfully(as I thought) suggesting career paths which would suit Autistic people, and said "I am not a category I am me"It gave me alot of hope, and thought me to shut my mouth sometimes!

that is one of my daughter's most favorite thing to do when I am extremely stressed or just running on "empty". Most the time I feel horrible for yelling WHAT at her....
