I am a huge supporter of parents educating themselves. There are an ever-increasing number of books about autism on the market and I thought it would be nice to have a list of ones we have each found particularly helpful.

'The Martian in the Playground' by Clare Sainsbury is excellent, all about understanding the school age child with Asperger's Syndrome and how they experience life at school.
Also, 'Asperger's Syndrome - a Guide for Parents and Professionals' by Tony Attwood is a great all round book that covers most of what you need to know.

One I gave the teachers to read was LOOK ME IN THE EYE by John Elder Robison. fabulous. Principal of our primary school even read it and called me at home to tell me how funny, enjoyable and enlightening the book was. It has now made it to the 5th teacher in school. Might just let them keep that copy.
Another book that is about a 2 minute read and is great to give to people to quickly help them understand how great our kids are is called ALL CATS HAVE ASPERGER SYNDROME by Kathy Hoopmann. It is cute, easy to read and full of picture. Still makes a big impact. Lots of comments and light globes turning on for the readers.
