Anyone have any advice on giving liquid meds to their child? My son is on antibiotics and anti-yeast treatment from his DAN! that require us to give him 3 teaspoons a day of the meds. It is absolute hell, including having to pin him down and have it spit out at us!!! And it doesnt actually taste bad, but I think he's got a mental block about it. It's becoming a severly traumatic situation for 3 times a day. The other problem is that with the yeast treatment he can't have sugar so I can't bribe him with a cookie or hide it in chocolate sauce or ice cream. I've tried bribing him with videos (his favorite) and hiding in sugar-free applesauce and those options do not work. He's got amazing detection abilities. So we're left with the human straight-jacket approach and I'm running out of patience and strength.... HELP please!!!

We had to hide it in yogurt it was the only way for a while that he would take it. the yogurt has such a strong smell he couldn't tell that it was in there. Also something else that worked was at our pharmacy they let you pick the flavor you want to put in and letting him pick made him want to take it.

Are you allowed to put it water or juice??? If so try that. Put it in the biggest cup you have that your son is capable of drinking from by himself. That way it gets a bit watered down and hopefully he wont notice it in there. Also when your doing this...do NOT let him see you putting the meds in the cup.

Thanks for the tips... unfortunately I have a one of a kind kid who actually doesn't like juice. He only drinks water... which is great for health but terrible for hiding meds! ; )

Hi,
We did all the DAN stuff, nothing helped, but I do understand how hard it is.
I get the pharmacy to flavor the meds, they DO have sugar free flavoring.
We do orange or strawberry and put it in OJ or milk.
Ask your DAN doc if a tiny bit of sugar is ok.
Even sugar free things have SOME natural sugar in it(like fruits)...

Oh my goodness it sounds like my son!!! How incredible that they can detect the medication in anything that you put it in..With my little guy I put it in his drink..of course I talked to the pharmacist to see if it was ok and that worked for me. I obviously had to hide when mixing it because the minute he would see it he would refuse the drink. I'm not too familiar with DAN diets but is there a juice out there that is Sugar free? Maybe try that and see how it goes.

Good luck
