I have twin 2 yr old boys that are being tested for autism and such and have to see the neurologist really soon. Been told by two different therapists that he is not a warm fuzzy doctor but is very good at what he does and he is in and out and to have everything together when I go in....so I am very nervous!! What should I make sure I have for this appt ? What should I expect ...how long does it typically take to get a diagnoses....what is the typical process...or is there one??? Not dumb...lol...just very new to this all and just would like to know so I can prepared....

Our diagnosis took 3 hours and they warned us in advance of the time commitment. I brought my son something to drink and snacks. They asked us every question immaginable. They observed him and tried to interact with him and had us try to interact with him. Again 3 hours. At the end of the evaluation, they said, we're sorry but your son has autism. It was devestating but you are going in with eyes wide open. We didn't know what we were walking into. My one piece of advice to you - do NOT sugar coat anything. A question like - is he playing with you? Does not mean that one time he briefly played with you, it means like on a regular daily basis. I believe there are a few hundred questions which they will probably ask you to answer orally and on paper. They want to hear your responses as well as read them on paper. A thorough doctor should do that anyway in my opinion. Good luck to you.
