Hello All
I just wanted to introduce myself, im Claire a mum of 4 happy and (very) loud children 3 girls and a boy, my son Dylan has Autism among other communication disorders. We live in England and are extremely lucky to have the most wonderful special needs school only 30mins away from out home. So while i had 5 minutes spare i thought i would just stop by and say hi!

Good morning Claire,
The school is doing what they "have to". We do have an education services agency and I do have a number of advocates and consultants...I do have the support I need. The response/reluctance of the school is typical, it is just sad that advocates are needed and the legal people have been consulted which improved the attitude of compliance with the school...I am guessing the statementing process would be like our IEP, individual education plan. We have an IEP that classifies Joe with Austism Spectrum Disorder, and he has a behaviour plan...it really is just the attitude of the administrators at school. I wish we had a school that staffed trained qualified positivie enthusiastic energetic child oriented people!!! as opposed to people who are not trained and see their job as just that...a job and the administrators hold finances as the bottom line and not what is best for the child...thanks for letting me share...Hope you have a great day!!!

Im so sorry to hear you are not getting the support you deserve. I don,t have any idea of how the system works out there, but do you have any head of education for your area you can speak to? Before we got Dylan in to Gosberton school Dylan went to an assessment class in a SLD (Server Learning Disability) school and we got his statement changed to fit the school that was best for him. Do you have a statementing process?

Hi Claire,
I wish we had a special needs school...I enrolled my son in a charter school because the small class size was appealing only to learn autism training was offered to the school as a whole and they declined...individual teachers can volunteer for the training but few have...and the aid is very inexperienced...I have been told it may or may not be better at another school and may very well be worse...his clinical diagnosis is PDD-NOS, he is highly functioning but his behavior at school can become very aggressive, destructive and I don't know how to help them as he just does not behave that way at home...
