Try to go throgh the school and your local MHMR. they can usually steer you to the right doctor and program that help diagnosing.

Can I say you poor thing it must be horrible to be waiting this long for a problem to be diagnised. I hope for your sake this has not been going on for the whole 7 years for you and your family. It must be horrible to find out or not find out if something is wrong. I hope for your sake that your child is fine.
I think as I always say trust your instincts and if you think something is wrong push your doctor or school or whoever else you are in contact with to help you get a formal diagnosis.....

My niece went through neurologist, appointments, child psychologist appointments, etc. and finally one of them diagnosed her with PDD. Is this a type of asberger's syndrome. My sister is treating her with vitamins and I'm wondering if this is the right approach??

I had an extremely difficult time getting my son properly diagnosed. You'll need to find a psychiatrist who really listens to you. When my son was 5-years-old he ended up in the mental hospital because of extreme behaviors. I was told that since he didn't go "through the roof" when they gave him Ritalin, that my son was ADHD with a little depression. This never made sense to me. Trust your instincts, do your research, and ask for referrals. I found a local children's mental health advocate who told me about a new psychiatrist in town who specialized in children with mood disorders. She sent us to the Epilepsy Institute in the neighboring city for a full neuropsych evaluation, which showed he had Asperger's Syndrome. It took another year on waiting lists to get confirmation from TEACCH (a local autism program whose diagnosis the school systems recognized) and a pediatric neurologist who also diagnosed a sleep disorder. My son was 9 before he was formally diagnosed and provided appropriate treatment. He is a much different child now - compassionate, calm (usually), and doing pretty well academically. You are your child's best advocate and know your child better than anyone. Trust in that, and know you are not alone.

Have the school push the issue. Ask for an SST (student study team) at school, then have them write up a letter with concerns and submit it to your doctor. Ask for an autism evaluation. Do you have any signs of it in the family? Take a hard look around. It usually runs in families. It took awhile to get one for my daughter, but I asked for help from the school and made notes/lists of my daughter's daily activities. Make lists of everything that bothers your child and when you started noticing it happening. Do your research. They don't like to make the diagnosis because it's a money thing. There is a lot of help out there for children who qualify. No one is in a hurry to say that your child is autistic, but not only do you need to know, the child is the one who suffers.

Actually,a psychologist can help with this. And look around for any doctors that see alot of special needs children. My son is special needs so I know how hard it is to get the proper help you need. If you have any q's just let me know.

Has your child seen a developmental pediatrician or a neuro-psychologist? I have heard from many people that this is the best way to get a correct diagnosis. They are hard to get into though, I am still on a waiting list for an appointment to have my son diagnosed correctly.
