I didn't take the time to read all the posts, but from the ones I did read, I didn't see what the exact site(s) was/were. I know a great site that I always shop at: cafepress.com. They have countless products with HUNDREDS of autism and Aspergers quotes and sayings. I LOVE THIS SITE and always find myself spending an hour or so looking at the different sayings. If you never been on the site, I invite you to please go on- WARNING: HIGHLY ADDICTIVE ;)

LOL cool shelly. I can see me fronting for the first day of school with kids in tow and shirt on.  Which national autism conference? where:? when? We missed the major one in australia because no one informs us its on, and the dear school did NOT send of of the special needs teaching staff. GRRRRR.

The last book i loaned the school was absolutely fantastic and guess what, the school cant remember seing it and the teacher who i gave it to to read, has moved on. Through a relative of hers tho i was told she left it at the school. hmm dammit.

I would have loved to go to the conference and learn more see mor information and nag government officials (we have rural cabinet meetings so they are fantastic to go and stick your face into government ministers faces.  Probably once a year they are doing their thing close to me, so i am always there lining up to chat to the disasbilitys minister and the education minister.

Hey maybe that can be a shirt - My son has autism and if you don't like it - go suck it! :)

I did not go to the site but I know I have seen shirts for the child that say "if your happy and you know it flap your hands" I love that. I want to get one for my son to wear to the national autism conference. That is a place where everyone will get it. I have also seen shirts for mom that say "I am an Autism Mom - I have big mouth and I am not afraid to use it" I love that since we are constantly have to fight battles - public, doctors, insurance, education system etc...

I have found that having a tee shirt saying my child has autism or a bumper sticker etc has also helped me to accept it. It was like my little movement to say I publically accept him for who he is - I will not carry any shame and anyone who doesn't like it can suck it! :) I was very empowering!

no they have no special school or class rooms here its all main stream school i find if i have a good aide and fill her in on what his problem are then it  ok he has only been in pre school for 4 months and i have already had to complain and go higher up then the teacher it p.... me off when you try and tell then how to handle your kids and they still dont do it i have only just start the school thing and i know i will have much more run ins with teachers but im going to fight for my boy and i dont care how far i have to go they deserve to their problems understood is your kids in main steam school or special class

Yes, some should be made for autism awareness, the tourettes ones are going great.  It might take the parents of autistic kids to push the tv channels to make some though, they dont understand what we go through each day.  My worst nightmare is school, constantly ringing to tell me he did something wrong or behaved inappropriatly ya ya ya.  Then when they use a behaviour strategy at school they use soemthing that is written for ADHD kids and dont understand that that does NOT work for autistic and NEVER will!

Is ther a giant steps school/group near you? might be worth working now towards them getting to know ethan and trying to get him into their school (where he has a chance of being understood).

yes it does lol you should check out youtube and the video from Mark Ieland  missing pieces its so beautiful and there other posts there that parents of children with autism have done songs with pictures and the are so sad but beautiful i think one of the should be made into a add for tv for autism awareness

I think there would be lots of parents with litle ones who could use that dont touch me shirt!  Kids shouldnt have to put up with random people touching them, how come its like they think twice before they touch a strange doggy, but just go straight for the hair /face if its a little child?

Having had autistic kids if i see someone with a little one, i always ask mum if i can play with them, and never put hands near their face, living with autism makes you learn to think, and use common manners (so whos the normal one then?)

thanks for that one kerry its a good one i think i will get one made up it horrid when they do it i dont go around tell all strangers that ethan has autism and when you are standin in line people think its their right to touch them older people are the worst i know they dont mean know harm sometime they are so fast with doin it a dont get a chance to say he doesnt like touch i think its also that it startles ethan when they do it he has got better but if his in his pram then he goes right off if someone touches him i think a tshirt would work i was going to stick something on the pram but though twice thanks for all your help:)L

One for ethan  * I have AUTISM = DONT touch me i may react badly.  *  Then you are not admitting that he will bite (a bit like those guard dog signs, you are held responsible if your dog sign says warning dog may bite) so it is a gentle warning that ethan may react, lol seen a volcano before? if you touch him!

Thanks so much- I think it's a great idea! My daughter is 3 and when she was younger a tantrum and not speaking yet did not seem all that unusual to people but now that she is bigger, we are getting the stares...

Thank you so much for the great website. I think that more people need to be aware of what autism is. I am just so sick of trying to go shopping and have a normal day when people just don't understand and cant keep staring. I am going to get some of these t-shirts and really give them something to look at.

im glad im not the only one that finds it hard when we are out and kieran my 7 yr old starts moaning and screaming bcos he no longer wants to wlak or hates where we are heading-he has mild autism but also has a social communication disorder, although he is in main stream school-with a lot of fighting he speaks perfectly now after speech therapy,but instead of saying- i dont want to do that or im tierd he will scream instead and have a otal breakdown,which as many of you are aware is very tireing to say the least,when he was 2 we went on holiday and on 1 of the seaside stalls i found a t shirt maker- i had 1 made where on the front it said- im not naughty, and on the back- im autistic!! i put him in this every time i went somewhere he would start and you could see peoples eyes -after staring lower quickly once they read his shirt lol i think they are a great idea for all parents and children as it does stop those embarressing looks and stares mel xx

Okay, I'm on this one site and some of these shirts are really cracking me up.. What is even funnier is someone that has *no* clue what autism is probably won't know why that shirt is so funny.



The one that has me laughing at the moment says, "Autism Rocks! (and flaps and spins and...)

I saw that and my son popped up in my head dancing through the store singing and spinning...*haha*

thanks julie was unsure about putting it up on notice board and i do agree that people and our child shouldnt be ashamed of what they have got i will be teachin my boy to be proud of that he has autism he works so hard every day to do what we take for granted im very proud of him and tell him everyday what a good job he is doing when he talks or plays

great idea. i have 2 children with autism and i went straight to the site and ordered myself a t shirt. i think it is time that everyone accepts and understands autism without the fear and ignorance that still exists.who couldn't love a child with autism. they are difficult to say the least , but when they love you it's so pure. wouldn't want my boys any other way
