My 6 1/2 yr old has started taking this medicine. Since then he has been having accidents at school both urine and bowel. He does have low muscle tone and other problems at school have been going on like bullying etc. Just wanted to know if it has effected anyone elses child this way, or if it is other issues at school that are causing it.

Any insight would be helpful.

Thank you all so much for your helpful comments. I appreciate your input so much. He is still having accidents, even as of this morning. Only...they do not happen at home, just at school. Though the one this morning happened in the car when we arrived at the school. He has asked me to stay with him at school lately too. I am leaning more towards stress being the issue since he has not had the accidents at home. I think his social struggles and academic struggles may be the cause. Still researching though to make sure. I am at a point though, of perhaps homeschooling. Not just because of the accidents, but because grade wise he is failing. Don't you just wish you could kiss the boo boo and make it all better...just not so.

I totally think that this is a side effect that should be posted under the: Medication side effects part of the label. My on was on this about a year ago for 2months ans he had very frequent urination.I asked his psychiatrist if this was a side effect and she old me no and that something else must be going on. I winded up taking him to a pediatric urologist. They did many tests and found nothing to be wrong.they said everything seemed to be functioning normally. Then 3 months ago his psychiatrist put him back on intuniv along with straterra( which he started taking after his first round about with intuniv),and guess what his frequent urination has started up again and again his school is concerned beause it is so not normal.

Honestly as a speech language pathologist, the low muscle tone mixed with stress could also play a key role. Just a thought.

Both of my daughters are on the medication and they both had one urine accident each during the first week. It was overnight while they were sleeping. Nothing else though, and the issue subsided after the first week.

Yes he is on other medicines. I talked with his counselor, physician and pyscologist since I posted. I was told it is not a common side effect. Though any one can have a different reaction to any medicine. So we are going to check out some other possibilities. He does have a lot going on...just kind of odd that he had control and then starting having more problems after taking this medicine...but other things socialy at school have been happening ex: bullying. Thanks for searching the net for me. I did as well. :)

I just googled side effects of Intuniv and there is nothing about those things. There may be something else going on. Is he on any other meds?
