In a recent meeting w/ my sons caseworker (County Mental Health) she said that kids have behaviors for reasons. We may not understand why they are acting the way they are, but the behavior is somehow helping them work through something. We may not know what *it* is and we may never know what *it* was, but they are behaving that way for a reason and just be patient...
At first, I thought she was just babbling some psychology junk. Then...I looked back at Austin's (4 years old) behavior and it seems so clear :-/ He had a reason to be anxious and tense. He expressed the problem, and now we are doing *much* better.
Be patient...their behavior is somehow helping them :) I am a firm believer that a mother has a gut instinct and I will no longer doubt that!
If you have "that feeling", follow through and take it as far as you need to until you feel that your child is safe and receiving the care that they need. If you are having a rough day, pull out your favorite picture of you holding them and it will at least brighten your day for that moment :D
