My 7 year old son and I went for a walk the other day. We met a family that recently moved in up the street. They have a boy that is my son's age, and they informed me that he is autistic. He can't speak very well, but his grandma said he does sign language and is learning to read. I would really like for my son to be able to play with him as I think it would be beneficial to both children. The communication barrier is tough though. My son can't learn sign language over night. Any advice on how I can help the boys communicate?

How about taking good old paper and pen, they can write notes to each other. Or a small dry erase board.
