hello amber,
i am a parent with two asd boys...how me and my husband cope up?well,acceptance is the key,and everything follows.we talked about it always,pray and do everything best we can to support the needs of our kids.Here in the Philippines we don't have enough support from the government on this cases,but we see to it that my children are coping what's not provided. we also pray to give us the strength to face this together and as a family.smile and look at the brighter side after all they are our angels. wink*

I am not sure what types of responsibilities you are trying to get your son to do. In our case, it takes time. I mean she learns responsibiliitey s-l-o-w-l-y. And sometimes it is three steps ahead and two steps back. I have two girls 18 months apart. The older girl is ADHD/gifted/PDDNOS (aspbergers). Our younger girls is far more responsible. It goes with the territory. Her anger is an appropriate response to how frustrating her life must constantly feel. Just keep plugging ahead.

My son is diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome which is a High Functioning Autism. He is currently 13 and we are having some major issues with anger and responsibility. We don't know how to get him to care or take responsibilities for his actions.
We are in Alberta, Canada and we are provided through family services some help from different agencies for behavior and respite (babysitting).

I'm pretty new here myself. My daughter, Olivia, is 3 years old and has ASD. Coping? Well...depends on the day really. Mostly when we stay home I just go about my day and Olivia just is herself. We just moved to Germany to be with my husband after a 20 month separation since he joined the Army back in April 2008. I honestly do not have much help here at all. My husband is still trying to figure out how to be a father to a child with a pretty decent disability, we have no childcare figured out, and Olivia isn't in services or school yet. I am muddling through what I can daily. I've not been on top of it all and that is NOT good because this week my husband goes back to work, and I cannot drive here yet. SOOO...we will see where that leads us. It is too cold to walk with my girls to post, but I will figure something out. Even if that means taking the bus daily down to get my things done.
I'd love to hear your story Amber, and hear about your son. I hope you feel free to share here. I haven't been on this board long, but I am floored by the amount of support. :)
