my son has started breath holding

my son is autistic, and about to turn 2, he has recently started to hold his breath when he is scared instead of screaming, i then notice he is blue and unconscious and it scares me to hell incase he doesnt start his breathing up again, its hard to open his mouth as he clenches it shut any ideas on how to stop him doing this, apart from not take him anywhere he is scared off.

definaltly worth discussing with the Dr to see if they can provide any help,

yeah when he was 5mths he had pnemonia and now has asthma (as mouth turns blue when running, playing), the hospital are also thinking about checking his heart for any problems.

does he have any respiratory problems that might be making it worse?

i know that normally, it should kick back in but as he has breathing problems anyway sometimes it doesnt and the last time it took several minutes of us helping to get him started again. but thank you for the advice

I don't know how you can stop him. As scarey as it may seem, I don't think its physically possible to self suffocate by breath holding. The second he starts passing out nature will kick in a it will automatically do what its supposed to do and take in oxygen
