Recently my son, who is 9 years old with high functioning autism, heard 'shut up' word when his friend used it. After that he is using that word with everyone.

Today morning, when he got into the special bus to summer school, the bus driver said 'Good Morning'. My son said 'shut up'. The driver got very angry!!

How to teach my son to stop use this word?

thanks

Govardhini.

If your boy is higher functioning I would tell him those words are not very nice. Tell him it is ok to say be quiet please :-). Tell him it is more polite to use those words than using shut up :-). My boy has moderate to server autism and Bearly uses his words in the right mannor but he heard oh shit do he has been saying that heaps even at school they have been redirecting him in a friendly tone to say oh shoot. Much more better. What ever u do do not pay attention to the actual words shut up. Hen he says them say to him can u say can u please be quiet. End of story :-). He will get the hang of it may take a bit but he will understand

Hi, My son did the same thing about two years ago and now I have not heard him say since . I think its just a phase they go through hopefully your son would grow out of it just give it time. Also explain to him that he should not be saying that and if he keeps it up ground him and put him in his room.
