My son who is ASD is going to have to mainstream in middle school, Help!!

My son who goes to middle school next year who is in a SDC class and has autism but he is medium function. Well the school just mainstreams all the special ed kids in middle school. My son does well in math but he is still reading at a first grade level. He scored a 2 percent in understanding paragraphs. Does anyone know about any laws that would protect my son from mainstreaming full time? He obviously isn't ready but the school district is too cheap to provide special ed classrooms.

where do you live? so sorry to hear that they are so cheap. Just make sure that the other kids dont pick on him.

If I were in your shoes, I'd get an advocate like the other two parents. Go for it.

There are two other parents that are concerned. One had a educational advocate and she is now in a non public school and the other parent is getting a educational advocate and having her children tested now. I am feeling the pressure to get an advocate myself.

Considering they get money for him, and any other special needs kid, that's a bunch of BS. Find other special needs parents in the school and get together to find a way to petition the school, and district for changes.
