My daughter is almost 4 and I have been trying to get her tested by speech and ot since she was 2. I tried working with ealy on and they where of no help at all! She didn't even see the speech therapist after a year of waiting because they called and canceled. All other places don't accept her insurance. I am tired and exasperatted my daughter and I both need help. And no one in the family understands. They just compare her and say what is wrong with Aubrey. It is very hard and frustrating, she has typical signs of Autism but I believe that she would be diagnosed with Asperghers. I don't know what to do anymore!

What state are you in? If you have cause (pediatrician could say) the school district in your town has to evaluate your child. Check into it...

I really don't have much else to say- I agree with everyone else- go to the school and get her tested. . . I wanted to mention though- That picture is the CUTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN! =) I just HAD to tell you that! Good luck! Once you get it- Speech Therapy will do WONDERS!! I do hope you find help soon and I wish I could be more helpful.

Go Autism Society of America under "I'm a family member...." there you will find a link to a referral service or call 1-800-3Autism. Also try disabilityinfo.gov. under the link •Autism and other Developmental Disabilities for a pretty comprehensive list of websites.

The school system in Indiana has a step ahead program for children three and up. It is free preschool and they get all kinds of therapy. They also have people to diagnois autism. It is all free. And also Easter Seals is great if you can qualify for help with your local rehab center. They also do diagnoisis there. And there is also Step Ahead for children under 3 and if you qualify it is also free or if you don't qualify for free you still might qualify for a copay of $10 a session. What's great about step ahead they can come to your house or if you want they can meet you somewhere else. The best thing you can do is get the diagnosis and then go to the local welfare office and see what you qualify for because there is a Autism medicaid waiver that covers all therapies and medical cost for autism issues only, but there is a long waiting list so it is best to get a diagnoisis as soon as possible.

I understand how you feel, believe me. It is exausting. Has your daughter been diagnosed? My daughter is going to be 14 and is autistic. Not very much though, she is highly functional. We don't have insurance and we make to much money. I just want her to get some help, she has alot of fobias and it is very frustrating. I feel like I am banging my head on the wall with her sometimes. But she is differnt and no one understands that. I don't know what to do.

go to your local public school and ask to speak with an administraitor, even though your child is not of school age. Forget health insurance. Public schools have testors, and your taxes pay them... my daughter was evaluated by the school system before she was enrolled in school. I live in Fairfax county of Virginia and we have excellent services. I hope your county will help you.
