Real or orchestrated meltdown?

How do I tell if my 10 year old son with Aspergers is having a real anxiety meltdown or if he is faking it to manipulate a situation? He has real anxiety about school, but my gut tells me that some of his meltdowns may be to get out of classswork and homework. He has started some behaviors during his meltdowns that he never did before, like sucking his thumb, getting into a fetal position, doing this repetitive growling type sound (ever see iCarly when Carly freaks out at Sam's and Sam's mom's counseling session? - that exact kind of sound, like he's mimicing the show) He seems to be able to snap out of it pretty quickly.

Hi that sounds like my 8 yr old that has autsim how he behavors, Have you spoken to his school and see how they control him there and also if hes starting to bit on his thumb have you heard of a chey tube when he gets that chewy sensation that might help and when his having a meltdown go down to his leave and say stop now last warning if that does it put him in his room take all breakable toys out and let him understand what he did wrong.I hope this works this for me and james best of luck
